Guitarchitect, why do you think you know what informaiton is OK to share and what is not to share. I think it was said before that this is a post and people have their right to speak freely.

I've never subscribed to either nor have I really been interested in doing so, so I'm just curious that's all.
I started a premium membership at CN over a year ago. This was before CF. The main reasons for my decisions were, a message board to talk with cyclone fans without any trolls from the east, any questions you have about content or recruiting were answered fairly rapidly, and once Chris and Brent came on board, the articles and info I couldn't find better elsewhere. Time will tell with a shifting of personal.
The better question is why do people donate money here? I did it because if the people getting the service didn't support CF, it might not be around.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I loved CN - the content and insider info Chris and Brent provided was second to none.

My renewal for CN is up in March. If it were today, I wouldn't be renewing. I'll stick around to see what happens.

What's funny is I have several friends on both CR and CN and everyone of them copy and paste stuff off of the websites and email them to me and others. Information gets out from tons of sources and if you think that CR and CN are a secret club where information can be contained, I have some land for you to buy in Alaska. Show me any info of importance that ever came out on CR or CN that was not had by most of cyclone nation within a couple of hours. If you want to pay to belong and get your information, than more power to you. But no one can argue the fact that everyone is going to get the information. And Jeremy doesn't steal any of this, he just brings a great site for Cyclones to come and talk together in. And just like a group of Cyclones at the water cooler, you are going to get one or two people that have talked to someone from CN or CR or some other source and will tell you the same thing. So CF is just like a big Water Cooler conversation and I LOVE IT!!! Thanks Jeremy and keep up the good work!!!

Quoted from 4-star recruit thread:

Nobody here expects or tries to recieve premium information from CR and CN, but what we do expect is to be able to freely read what is posted here, discuss it with dignity, and not have to deal with the little hissy fits that seem to occur on a regular basis. It's getting to the point where these arguments are taking place so frequently, it's taking the fun out of reading the threads.

The purpose of this discussion board is for the spread of information and opinions of fellow Cyclone fans. As mentioned, more people than just Paul and Jeremy have sources. If someone learns something through a legitimate source, they should be allowed to share it with the rest of us without fearing the wrath of McCarthyism knocking at their door.

Now, let's talk about this 4-star rumored recruit. Does anybody know his name yet?

Great Post. I AGREE Completely! There is always more sources of information that just a couple of pay sites.

Speaking of stealing paid info, we see lots of free info on both boards just by reading headline message board captions, football and basketball committs, other school boards, websites (CFN, CBS sports, ESPN, Foxsports, CNSI, NBC), we hear rumors from people and listen to talk sports radio which lets lots of good info out of the bag. When info shows up here, it is much like the same info can arrive from many different directions. Yes, I am tired also of people ******** it is stolen info when it probably is not stolen unfairly. Tinme to move on for this subject. This is a discussion board with personal opinions and observations.

Since scouts and rivals have paid sites for most schools in the nation and there arte similar sites to this one for every school, this ragiong debate about stealing info must be a nationwide Clue of Who Did What to Whom in what Room.Again, time to move on. Better to talk about sports than who ripped whom off. And yes, we want to know who is visiting in January as potentil recruits. Speaking of info, Bobby Knight is still trying . 30 of his past buddies including Alford were left at the altar in Vegas last night. Sorta funny.

I subscribe to CR because I believe in supporting someone who is making his living following the Cyclones. He does it in a professional way, and doesn't tease us or trip over himself posting bad info too early (it happens other places). I don't like Deace, so I don't go to CN. I come HERE to read some good discussions on diverse topics with a different sort of fanbase (younger IMO).

I can also easily afford to do it. If someone thinks $6-$9/month is too much (which frankly boggles my mind) then they should probably be looking into some further education or a little less time on the internet and more time at work anyway! :)

It's pretty obvious that people read a "premium" post at CR or CN and then google that info until they can come up with a public link to post at a free board. Sh*t happens I guess. I choose to pay for it and support a man's family. So be it!

Go Cyclones!

You look at as a good thing to support a man that makes money on promoting ISU.

I think it's great to support a website where the owner makes no money in this full-time "hobby".

I won't criticize folks for being premium members - as of right now I am one on CN. However, I won't buy into the notion that premium members are better fans, more educated, etc.

That's been proven time and time again to not be the norm.

Plus - where is an extra $99 more well spent? On an ISU message board or donated to the program? I know for a fact there are some heavy donors on this very site many look down upon.

I completely understand and respect your decision to subscribe to these services. However, just because someone doesn't want to pay $9/month doesn't mean they need to get a better job to make more money to afford it.

Personally, I wouldn't pay $2/month for it. That's just my personal choice. Why? Because if I wait 2 hours to 2 days, I will have the info anyway. I liken it to buying a PS3 or Nintendo Wii on ebay now. You are paying a lot higher price to get it a little earlier but if you wait, you can get it at regular price.

Also, I can think of about 39485 better ways of spending $100 per year...like giving it to the National Cyclone Club which actually benefits Iowa State University.

Yes I am a Saint, thanks. Just ask... wait -nevermind that.

I don't see how paying a man to make a living covering the team I love makes me a bad guy, but to each his/her own. I belong to the National Cyclone Club and have season tix to FB and BB. I could give $99 to Saddam Hussein if I wanted to I guess -or to ISUFAN22.

My money says that CR will be around in 10 years. And in 20 years. There will be 5-10 "hobby" Cyclone sites come and go in that time as well. That's the way it works!

Oh, and that badonkadonk made a brotha want to pop a wheelie.

Go Cyclones!

Never did I say you giving money to CR made you a bad guy. Yet if you re-read your other post - you made it sound as if you were a better fan for doing so. That was my point, read the words on the screen.

Guitarchitect7 do you have a job? You post almost as much as Amy!!!!!!!!!

Guitarchitect, why do you think you know what informaiton is OK to share and what is not to share. I think it was said before that this is a post and people have their right to speak freely.

For someone who has only two posts, and both directed towards me, you would think you knew me or something!:wink0st:

As for what should or should not be shared, my statement was only an opinion. Jeremy and others have asked not to post information that source from the other sites. So as stated before, coaching and recruiting information is sometimes the material that only sources for that site for the time being. Later as they release the info for all to view, then this information could be discussed openly.

But columns such as Defensive schemes, and recruit bios on already public commits, I feel are things that could be shared without crossing the line of leaking premium info. This type of info is already open to public access, its just the matter of putting a story to it.

I just don't like how everybody over there hates CF so much and is always talking smack about it. They act like Hawkeye fans talking about ISU.

Yep 'everybody over there hates' CF. Wow. The problem is the two sides haveing these 'loyal' members that feel the need to defend some kind of internet message board honor of the two sites. Anyone with half a wit can read between the lines of what has gone on and there is plenty of blame to go around. To bad no one will ever admit that, got that honor thing to protect I guess. If all 3 sites where to go away, I'd lose some internet time, I guess, but my life would be far from impacted substantially.

The only thing I'd say in all seriousness is that like Paul or not anyone that ownes or runs a business should cut the guy some slack on what he does or doesn't do to protect his 'turf'. It's easy to just throw out there that he runs a paying site that people don't feel they should have to pay money for, but lets remember that is what he does to support a family. I doubt you'll find many people here that would like it much if someone was pissing all over what they had done to create revenue and provide support for a family because others feel there should be some kind of 'freeness' about it. Whether 'stealling' is happeing or not, it's pretty lame on the part of the those that doing because the feel no moral obligation based on 'feelings'.

This thread is quickly headed south and Jeremy has taken a stance that bashing of other sites isn't allowed - which is the direction of this post.
