Yeah listen to them. They know everything/

If you want to try a fast low resource browser try Chrome.

Hit ctrl/alt/delete and then taks manager/processes

Sort my mem usage. What are your top 10?

Yeah I've done this several times... it seems so weird. The only processes I have using any CPU usage at the moment are:

System Idle 94 16K
TeaTimer.exe 4 85588K
taskmgr.exe 2 5040K
explorer.exe 1 29096K

and firefox is fluctuating around 8-15 at around 100,000K

ok, looking at your hijack this log, about half of the processes you have running are related to McAfee. My guess is now that it's expired it is doing something it shouldn't be (or not doing something it should be). I'd try removing that first.

Google Desktop would be my second choice of problem causer.

Firefox is just fine. There is no problem at all using it. As far as Geek Squad advice goes, take their advice and do the opposite and you'll probably be fine.

Thanks a ton... I really appreciate the help. I was guessing it was McAfee since it started happening right around the time my subscription expired... I just thought it was weird that even my Windows start up "tune" even lagged prior to my computer being fully booted up... guess that could still be related to McAfee probably though..

Anyways thanks I really do appreciate all the help!

Yeah, Google Desktop constantly runs and add your files to the cache, so it's always a good thing to can.

Is this a netbook with one of those solid-state hard drives? If it has one, you can usually tell because it will be smallish in terms of storage; 8G or 16G, as opposed to usually 120G or 160G for a traditional mechanical-magnetic hard drive. Solid-state hard drives are very, very low in terms of write speeds, so as you use space on the drive and the storage becomes "fragmented", writes are broken up and write speeds decrease even more.

Try going to control panels, administrative tools, computer management. Click on "disk defragmenter", then "defragment".

I guess I should have stated previously that I opted out of the solid state drive and went with the 160 G version for obvious reasons... thanks for the help though.

If the Windows start up tune is choppy I'm guessing you have some sort of hardware problem. Disk controller or CPU maybe?

Boot it up in safe mode and then kill all the non-OS operating processes. Try a few things and if it still seems slow that might point to hardware rather than software.

All of the programs you listed as installing will be running at startup. You're trying to cram a lot of applications through a relatively slow processor (as all netbooks have more or less the same slow Atom processor).

As mentioned, uninstall McAfee first and then see where things stand. Netbooks aren't meant for multitasking, and all of those processes running in the background are causing the CPU to attempt to do just that.

Like others have said, I would ditch McAfree

Then it wouldn't hurt to do a Disk Clean-up and then a Disk Defrag

Is this a Vista machine? I have a sidebar that I run that tells me me how much RAM and CPU(dual) I'm using. That would tell you if it's RAM or processing speed that is killing you.

I recall having a problem with teatimer a while back...

Same choppy start-up, too. Turn off all those programs that start automatically and add them back one at a time, if you think they are necessary. There are better alternatives to McAfee and Spybot available.

Also, make sure you aren't out of HD space.

Ok guys I'm going crazy still. Deleted Spybot and McAfee and downloaded the free version of AVG. Every system scan I have never finds any viruses/trojans/spyware, but my computer is still lagging. Youtube videos download at the normal speed, but the audio and video is choppy. Also my computer takes forever to boot up now, it used to be lightening quick. I still have 97.7 GB of a possible 106 available. There is literally nothing on this netbook that should be slowing it down. Do I have a hardware problem? The system idle process is also above 90 at all times. Nothing is hogging my CPU.

Uggghhhh this is driving me nuts!!!

Right click on the task bar and go to task manager.

It should tell you how much memory is in use (RAM, not hard disk space).

How much is that number and how much RAM is in your machine?

I would do start --> run --> msconfig
go to the start up tab and uncheck all of them
reboot and see what it seems like.

It might be bogging down because your software is starting up on startup looking for updates.

Ok tried that. Still booted up slow and the start up music was choppy.

I've tried doing a disk cleanup and a defrag as well.

or you go to the website of the company you purchased the pc from and try and update/flash the BIOS to see if that helps (if there is one available).
