I mean, I don't know that "difference" between D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or anything else for that matter as I don't have any first-hand experience myself.

I would have to think the only real difference is the level of competition between the divisions since I don't think the NCAA would have a set of different rules and regulations for each one of those divisions. Everyone who competes at those levels are still considered student athletes where they would have to go to class and practice regardless of what level they play at. Now sure some of them have a free ride to do so, but that goes back to the level of competition.

The SW Iowa hate in this thread is unbelievable to me.

To those of you who responded to the ignorance and had your posts deleted too, I apologize. But I'm not going to stand for that crap.

I'm not trying to add fuel but criticizing towns and sections of the state does happen quite a bit of CF. There is a thread about "worst towns in Iowa" that has almost 10,000 views and is 11 pages long.
Criticizing people and calling names when you don't know the story? Yes that's out of line.

How can anyone be p***ed at this kid? He's not leaving for another D1 program and if he can't hack a B12 grind we can't use him. Best of luck to him. Next Cyclone in.

The only logical reason to be upset at the kid is because he was using a scholarship that could have gone to someone else that was going to be here in the long run. However, there is a good chance there is more to the story than we will ever know so I will not hold anything against him.

Personally, I think there is more to this story than just tired of football, if that's what Collin said. DII is no walk in the park especially at NWMSU. Maybe someday CPR or Collin will fill in the gaps. This one hurts though when the coaches have invested so much into a TALENTED young man which never plays a down. Wonder how many offensive lineman we passed on this past year because Collin was here?

Time to move on, next man in!

It was a long time ago but I lived in Bedford as a child, just north of Maryville. It was pretty idyllic. Very polite people, and a very nice town with brick streets, lots of trees, porches, friendly neighbors etc., and Lake of Three Fires state park just outside of town, where we used to camp and fish. Many many years ago I saw a post saying Cloned (who, I have no idea) from the other board is from there (posted by StateFan as I recall). I also lived in Corydon, a couple of counties to the east, where my CF buddy tm3308 is from. I only noticed that long after we became friends. Neil Harl grew up on a farm east of there. Before he retired, I believe Harl was long the highest paid professor at Iowa State.

There is a lot more positive I could say about that part of the state, but I won't. People shouldn't have to, and that is not what this thread is about. I would just say that many people here have misconceptions. Maryville would be appealing to many who are familiar with it, and not necessarily for the reasons many on this board believe, think, infer, and imply.

Other than what he has said, I have no idea why Collin left but wish him the best of luck.

I get that but I also don't think he came to ISU under false pretenses. He lost whatever it is that allows you to play B12 football. Better for us that he left rather than if he stayed and took up space.

Ah damn now Im a double dumb ***

Talk about weird transfers from ISU, maybe we just take more notice of them not for sure. I will agree with everyone thats saying if he didn't want it here dont cry about him leaving. It sucks but if he quit half assed for the rest of the season on the bench its worse for him us and everyone.

Personally, I think that the whole "lost my love for the game" and "Ames/ISU was too big" is total BS. It's a party line put together by either the Bevins or ISU (or both) to avoid making ISU FB look bad for whatever the real reason for leaving was. I've seen rumors that he thought he should have played last year because he thought he was better than the guys in front of him and also that he thought he should be at DE instead of DT. Also seen rumors that he didn't like Shane Burnham and that Burnham favors out of state kids. To me, Bevins took the easy way out and displayed just the opposite of the hard working blue collar mentality that he supposedly had. I mean, he had his FR year out of the way, so classes would start getting smaller and he was staring at 4 years of being in the DL rotation at the very least if not starting. Lost his love for the game? Hmmm, how come he transfers to NWMSU to play FB? Dedication and intensity may be a little less at that level, but not much if any. I call BS. And then, he is already through the first summer session at ISU, so we can't use that scholarship for next year. Sorry, he screwed ISU and CPR. I'm not going to wish him well. I know that CW has a bias for SW Iowa kids, but I'm just calling it like I see it. I'd feel the same no matter where he was from.

I'm with you but I don't buy that Burnham favors out of state kids. I would imagine he is fair in his ball busting. I think if that were the case, he would have forced McDonough out when he was having issues at first.

Coaches dont care where you come from.
You may be somewhat right about the rest.
Tough loss but no big deal in the big picture outlook.

Iowa State isn't for everyone. NWMSU is a smaller school and more laid back than ISU. Some kids fit there better.

Guess I just have a problem seeing either ISU or Ames as "big". ISU has a large enrollment, but once you get through those FR/elective classes and into your major, class sizes drop considerably. I guess some people desire to be buddy-buddy with their teachers (usually the people who get a 4.0 in HS and then struggle in college because no one babies them or cares about their reputation as a perfect student). They're not going to get A's based on reputation at ISU. Being besties with the prof isn't going to help. And if the city of Ames is too big for you, you're going to lead a pretty sheltered life.

I freaking hope so. I think that the whole thing's a sham. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him play in Maryville 3 years, graduate and then end up in IC as a senior. Reminds me of Justin Hamilton leaving to play closer to home in Utah and then he ends up at LSU. It's a made-up excuse to avoid shining a negative light on someone.

Kilgore - Yes I am from SW Iowa. And yes, I'm DAMN proud of it too.

I grew up there. I chose to then go back and work for one of the top ag stations in the state, KMA in Shenandoah right out of college for three years.

Take the front-runner Nebraska fans on that side of the state out of the picture and there are some GREAT Iowa State supporters in that corner of the state.

Calling people hillbillies just because of where they are from and live, without knowing them at all? Not cool.

Could not agree more, Chris. My family has been in SW Iowa since 1871. My own upbringing was a combination of "Leave It to Beaver" and "American Graffiti". Great people. Great life. Great place. When I look around these days and see the life some "sophisticated" people have and some of the things they pull, I wonder who REALLY has a better life.
