I’ll continue to stump for Heacock. He’s obviously not going to reinvent the wheel (or maybe he will. The 3-3-5 wasn’t new to football. Using it as your base set was revolutionary because we figured out a way to stuff the run with safeties. Our safeties have also taken a beating over the years). My hope would be that he can continue the status quo for a few more years rather than having to burn everything down and start from scratch. We obviously don’t have the money for a quick, transfer-heavy rebuild and there’s no guarantee that’d work anyways.
Pros:
~ From what I can tell, the staff & players generally seem to love him in which case we may be able to minimize our defections.
~ His contract would probably be affordable.
~ Experience as a head coach.
~ He knows what it takes to be competitive in recruiting, in our conference, and against our rivals.
Cons:
~ He’s old and his personality is not as dynamic as Campbell’s. That hasn’t slowed Ferentz down, however.
This would be a short term deal while someone like Mouse or Broomfield are groomed for bigger roles assuming they stay.
