Coaching Search Thread

Since Big Ben wanted Mike Tomlin at Penn State and that job's pretty much filled, maybe Tomlin to here. Can somebody get ahold of Big Ben? You can probably track him through his ankle bracelet.

I’ll continue to stump for Heacock. He’s obviously not going to reinvent the wheel (or maybe he will. The 3-3-5 wasn’t new to football. Using it as your base set was revolutionary because we figured out a way to stuff the run with safeties. Our safeties have also taken a beating over the years). My hope would be that he can continue the status quo for a few more years rather than having to burn everything down and start from scratch. We obviously don’t have the money for a quick, transfer-heavy rebuild and there’s no guarantee that’d work anyways.

Pros:

~ From what I can tell, the staff & players generally seem to love him in which case we may be able to minimize our defections.

~ His contract would probably be affordable.

~ Experience as a head coach.

~ He knows what it takes to be competitive in recruiting, in our conference, and against our rivals.

Cons:

~ He’s old and his personality is not as dynamic as Campbell’s. That hasn’t slowed Ferentz down, however.

This would be a short term deal while someone like Mouse or Broomfield are groomed for bigger roles assuming they stay.

Did some top notch research and found out Matt Campbell has a sibling we can hire as our next HC! Scott Campbell.

A quick Google search for "Scott Campbell, coach" however, came up with Scott Campbell at....you guessed it....Penn State

Really? It seems like it has been pretty important.
Unless Pollard plans on hiring from within, having prior HC experience is critical. Matt Campbell showed how important it is for ISU to have a head coach who is more about leadership than being an X's & O's genius. A HC can always hire that in his assistant coaches.

Looking around the hires this off-season, only a couple have been hired from the assistant coaching ranks and almost all have an association previously with the school.
