Tell u what. If that happens I will drive to Ames...sit in a lawn chair in the middle of campus and let Stormin and Clondude tatoo "*******" on my forehead

still waiting:

We should all be very thankful that Leath is involved. It's pretty clear that Leath saw that outside of being given Fred in his lap...Every other hire by JP has been nothing short of a disaster.

We get it... Pollard killed your kittens. So.... Please list all hires by Pollard with either disaster/not disaster next to their name.

Why the **** is Tad Boyle even in the mix??? What is it about a guy who's finished 5th or below on average in some pretty ho-hum basketball conferences that I'm supposed to be excited about? YAWN.

I think it's possible that ISU will hire a new head men's basketball coach in the next few days or weeks. It will probably be someone who has coached before (head, assistant, or both), who knows where Iowa is and what teams play in the Big XII, and will get a pay raise. Whoever it is will probably have a bunch of fans who are sure it is a great hire, and others who are sure it isn't. The coach will likely win 20+ games next year and make the NCAA tournament, then will have a less successful year or two afterward. Also, I predict TJ Otz will remain as assistant, be chosen as the head coach, or leave the program. I have a source close to Iowa State who has told me all of this, so you can mark it as 100% accurate. And since none of you have any clue who I am or who my source is, I expect that you will believe everything I say, and I might even see my information cited on the major news outlets in Iowa, as well as ESPN, CBS Sports, etc. Yuo are all lucky to have me on your forum. Glad you all got a chance to benefit from my nowlidge.

Underwood’s sample size as HC is smaller than I’d prefer, and maybe he isn’t the best long-term fit.

But fans who think his style of play couldn’t be a continuum of what Hoiberg established with his system — I don’t know where they’re getting their information.

In Underwood’s two seasons at SFA, his teams won 61 games.
In 2014-15, SFA scored 80 points or more in 18 of 29 wins
In 2013-14, SFA scored 80 or more in 12 of 32 wins.

And apparently it wasn’t already part of the program’s identity before he became HC. Look at the previous few seasons:
2012-13: 27 wins, 1 game with 80 or more points
2011-12: 20 wins, 2 games with 80 or more points
2010-11: 18 wins, 2 games with 80 or more
2009-10: 23 wins, 2 games with 80 or more
2008-09*: 24 wins, 4 games with 80 or more points

*This was one of three NCAA tournament appearances for SFA in D1. Underwood coached the other two. Back-to-back, in the past two seasons.

Kirk Haaland's article has data that shows SFA is not an extremely up-tempo team. AdjT column shows they were 86th in the country last year, and 319th the prior year (ouch). However, they managed to score more points based on great offensive rebounding, great 2P%, and a high assist percentage. So if I interpret the data correctly, they are a very efficient scoring team, but not quite as up-tempo as we're accustomed to with Hoiball.

What's all this talk about a rift between Pollard and Leath? If this coaching search began weeks/months ago, wouldn't Pollard have to be a total dunce not to get feedback from the university president until now? That seems really hard to believe...maybe the two are acting in concert to make it seem like Pollard's unwilling to shell out the big $ for the "splashy" hire that Leath wants, in an attempt to rile up boosters and get them to open their checkbooks?

The problem is exactly that this is what the debate in these threads is now about; two sides looking to say "I told you so." I'd rather just get a great hire and have our bball team flourish.

Let's say TJ gets it. Do you think all the anti-TJ people (some of whom aren't necessarily against him, but are being put in that box) will be ****** off that he turned out to be a good hire? This is all just conjecture from all of us, so at the end of the day, let's just support the new hire and be good to our own fans. Save the trash talk for Hawkeyes.

100% how I feel. I'm not nessecarily for TJ being hired (I have other coaches I'd like ahead of him), but if he gets the job, and does well, that doesn't mean I enjoy the success any less.

Hint- football and men's basketball are the only ones that matter in terms of staying in the black and growing the budget.

I don't think that's completely true. JP has increased facilities, expectations, enhanced the public profile and in many cases the success of the traditional non-revenue. MBB and FB move the bank account the most, that's for sure. But all around success draws it's own interest and a decent number of otherwise less interested fans and donors. WBB is a perfect example of an easy opp for young fans to attend ISU events and become more fervent big money fans in the future. At the very least - many programs are contributing to their own costs more than they did prior.

Hornacek allegedly declined to interview. Agent claims Isu went through wrong channels. Source insists story is true. Per jerm, Isu nor firm contacted Phoenix directly. Something about a genie in a bottle. ******* contest ensues.

I think it's more, "hey Jamie, let's see who's interested?" rather than a rift.

Across MBB however, isn't Fred's salary somewhere in the low 20's nationally? Perhaps even just inside the top 20? So it seems we should be able to complete with about 90%+ of the schools out there.

If it's low 20's, take the top 65 schools that means we can pay in the top third of P5 schools for a coach. That's pretty darn good. Remember if we bring in a coach that keeps winning, we will only be able to offer more money.

Lol.
WBB attendance has nothing to do with JP, and the success of the program is at best static to where it was pre-JP.

I'm cherry-picking with the bolded parts, of course ... but those are good traits. Up-tempo or not.

And SFA was first in D1 in assists per game last season and 5th in FG% last season.
