As far as big names, what do people think is a big name?
Most of the big names have good jobs they aren't going to leave. The guys listed as interviewing are considered some of the top young coaches in the game. They aren't scrubs that nobody wants.[/QUOTEJu

Just looked over the final rankings for MBB and didn't see any team with a coach likely to be looking for a new job. SFA received votes and Underwood would be the highest of those being considered. It's just not a good time to be looking for a new MBB coach.

The Bubu situation was a turning point with Fred. He found it abhorrent how that entire situation was handled; including having him in uniform but not being allowed to play him.

Yeah I can imagine he was pretty frustrated with how everything was handled

Jesus, who are some of you guys expecting to be interested? We've had a nice 4 years, but we're not some household name. The candidates named are about what I expected. That's kinda how this thing works. Seriously, I want to hear some names of P5 coaches that would be interested and would excite you.

The delusion and general low IQ around here are astounding and embarrassing.

Lets see, big time names that have been mentioned (in a serious manner) in the last 2 days, just from memory:

Archie Miller
Data Altman
Chris Mack
Josh Pastner
Buzz Williams
Mark Turgeon
Scott Drew
Jamie Dixon
Tony Bennett
Richard Pitino Jr
Mike Anderson
Kevin Ollie
Mike Brey
Mark Few
Gregg Marshall

Delusional is exactly right.

Just watched some interviews with Lindsey Hunter. I could really see him impacting and teaching our guys the game. Seems like he has a good demeanor, and attitude. Loves the game, 2 NBA Championships and former point guard.

I would love to see him and TJ as Associate HC, lead recruiter.

I always liked him as a player even when cheering against his team.

Household name? Maybe not, but our last Coach just got the HC job for the Chicago Bulls. Coaching dead end this is not. Among Basketball people and the culture that is a big big deal. The Bulls could have had a lot of Coaches. There is a buzz for this team in the NCAA community. Duke or NC it is not, but it is a very attractive job right now.

The diference is dinero. At $3m plus we could pull a lot of Coaches. I just don't see JP doing that. IMO that is the biggest hurdle. It's a job and salary is always an issue.

Well whether the AD has background as a CPA, Engineer, Doctor, Garbage man or Hobo should have no effect on anything. Because their job as an AD is to run the Athletic Department which includes hiring coaches.
Don't be do naïve. Sure it does, which is why JP has done a great job with the books despite only moderate success on the field. There is also a big difference between "running and a department which includes hiring coaches" and having exclusive agency in hiring coaches. I have no issues with JP putting a team together to help him hire the coach and reaching out to basketball guys to formulate a list back when it became clear Fred could no longer come back to ISU.

One name from a non mid major would be enough to excite me at this point. But it might just be my low IQ I'm not sure.

Let's say we're able to offer that money. Who would excite you? Who would we have a shot with?

At $3M, I don't think a single coach on the list I just made is coming here, unless there is an unknown prior relationship with the program. Sure it'd be a raise for some of them, but I don't think a simple raise is enough to attract a settled coach in a major conference.

If we went Top 10 in salaries and threw much more than Hoiberg was making at someone, maybe a couple on the list would bite on that. If they did show interest, most of them would get countered by their school and stay anyway.

Lindsey Hunter intrigues me just because he is an NBA guy.

I know there's probably info on this guy in threads, but is he even a legitimate candidate? Here's what I know from reading his bio:

He has had a new job every year, with really none of them being a promotion. He was a disastrous interim coach on a disastrous Phoenix team for half of a season, then not retained at all. He appears to currently be unemployed?

Additional concern for me is that if he ever had success (as in just taking over next year's team and not driving off the road with them), he'd go back to the NBA where he has been for 20 years as a journeyman player and coach. Don't count me in the camp of the "he'll just leave anyway so we shouldn't hire him"- it's just that I don't see why he would come to ISU other than to find employment. He is an interesting/unique candidate if anyone can further enlighten me.

Mike Brey has had quite the evolution on CF. He went from people saying he was terrible and ND would fire him to people thinking we should hire him. ND isn't firing him and he isn't leaving. They are a good fit.

Now I really kinda want Otz to get it, and have awesome years in 16-17, 17-18 just to make some people on here look like dumbasses.

The problem is exactly that this is what the debate in these threads is now about; two sides looking to say "I told you so." I'd rather just get a great hire and have our bball team flourish.

Let's say TJ gets it. Do you think all the anti-TJ people (some of whom aren't necessarily against him, but are being put in that box) will be ****** off that he turned out to be a good hire? This is all just conjecture from all of us, so at the end of the day, let's just support the new hire and be good to our own fans. Save the trash talk for Hawkeyes.

Big time Chicago talent is not coming to Ames. Duke gets Okafor. We get Chris Colvin. That's just how it is. Without getting super slimy, we're not getting players from Chicago.

I'm not saying they would get Okafor I'm saying not every good player in Chicago or Illinois is a problem.
There are several top 100 talents that ISU could be going after. There are shady people all over basketball at the high school level not just Chicago.
