Coaching Prospects

Because if everybody does the same thing, and your talent level may not be equal to the teams you play, you probably will not win very often

ISU needs to run an offense that other teams do not see day in and day out.

That's a great idea, lets go back to the Wishbone...It sure worked for Jimmie Dean Walden...lol

I hope this means you are confident we are going to win a lot of games the rest of the way. I might think you're crazy but at least it would mean you don't think we are going to hang on to a guy after his sixth straight losing season.

As long as the fans keep showing up in droves and money keeps pouring in what incentive does JP have to replace him?

The single wing?

JP his terrible at coach hires. I still cant get over the fact that Kelly, Harbaugh and Briles all wanted the job and JP hired Chizik.
The only reason JP hired FH was cause his previous hire drove the program into the ground and no one else wanted the job. We will know in 3 years if Prohm was good hire or not.
Love JP amd hope hope he is at ISU forever but he sucks at coaching hires.

Source needed. Brian Kelly was JP's choice for the job until his wife refused to move to Ames.

I'd just like to see us try going for an OC instead of a DC like we've done in the last hires (i believe going back through the 80s). Get an offensive mind running the show.

Bring Tom Herman back to Ames.

The stupid thing Walden did was switch out a passing heavy attack for the option game....when Nebraska, OU, and CU were national powers and they were also running that offense. It gave him no advantage vs those teams or anyone else who often prepared for it in the Big 8.

Running that offense now would be an upgrade over what we've seen lately.

Remember...

This is the AD that consults with Big 12 refs and looks for a "man of faith" during coaching searches (no offense to Prohm).

If Pollard were to fire Rhoads (assuming another missed bowl game), I'm not really sure the replacement will be much different in the long run. Since there is no Top 5 talent in place like the basketball team, it will end up being some sort of "named" coach a la Chizik but without the attitude. It may sell tickets for a season or two but no guarantee of any meaningful amount of success.

Anyone hoping for Tom Herman (the guy we all celebrated for leaving as OC) is probably out of luck. Houston is a great mid-major job that can land him in a Top 10 Power 5 job within a few years. Unless he really loves Ames or wants to jump to Power 5 quickly, we will be out of luck. On top of that, I think there may be some burned bridges there.

You just proved my point, everybody lined up under the QB and ran the ball in Walden's day.
We were running the same offense as everybody else back then and we are running the same offense as everybody now. Results are same.

Id probably guess youre right there. The last 2 successful coaches at houston both moved onto Baylor and Texas A&M. With his resume at OSU and some success at Houston, if the situations at Texas or Texas Tech dont get better he could move into one of those opportunities.

I want a coach who wants to use Iowa State as a stepping stone. And that doesn't mean Gene Chizik.

Go big or go home. If Montana has a successful year let's grab Bob Stitt.

Not saying i'm going to lead the charge to bring him here, but interested why you react so strongly against that?

He won't have success here. He was CPR's first mistake. He highly marginalized the talents of the players he inherited, albeit not as bad as a guy like Mess trying to run Herman's offense.

The question ive started to have on that... was that Herman's doing, or was Rhoads meddling too much in herman's offense. It was highly rumored there were disagreements about how things should go between the two. He's had success everywhere else, and everyone blamed him here at the time because they loved Rhoads, but maybe over time it appears that Rhoads is the common element in the failed offenses here.
