Chris Allen?

CW constantly called him the best player on the team and the guy with the most NBA potential. Personally I don't think he's even our best guard. Hopefully we'll see some of what he showed in the off season soon.

CW was wrong. It happens.

This.

What planet do the people who think Chris Allen is a great shooter live on? We keep hearing that he's a "shooter". If Chris Allen is a shooter, Scotty is a banger.

Chris Allen is good at driving/penetrating, and is a decent distributor.

Based on the half season he's turned in at ISU, he's a pretty crappy shooter.

Hes a decent scorer. You are right he has never in hs collegiate career shot well from 3.

We got what we expected. Just look at the numbers.

Allen is a decent scorer and a decent ball handler. We don't have anyone else eligible who can do what he does for us. He had a very bad night last night, particularly at the line. It's probably gonna happen again, but we just don't have any other option. I'm still hopeful that those bad games may be balanced out by a couple games where he is shooting lights out and is able to carry the team like he so often tries to do.

So far I don't get the hype going into the season about Allen. Some thought he might be the best of the 4 transfers, so far I think I'd rank Royce 1st, Babb a distant 2nd and Allen and even more distant 3rd. Seems like he's a ballhog at times with poor shot selection. Starts to make you wonder about what his issue at MSU was about, might have been something with him not being a good team player?

Two, maybe three, of those misses were front ends.

He missed 1 front end in the first half which would be nbd, but the 2 misses at the start of the 2nd half following Royce's 2 misses hurt.

He was the #33 recruit in his class. 5th at his position in the nation. He started at Michigan State and played in 2 final fours. Just guessing that might be why there was some hype surrounding him.

Allen has definitely not lived up to the hype although he's not as bad as some people make him out to be. He's the type of player you have to take the bad with the good and that probably won't change. The bottom line is this team cannot be successful without his play. He is our best PG and driver. He is a good free throw shooter and an above average defender. If he can ever find that middle ground between creating his own shot and ballhogging, this team could reach its full potential. He has been better but last night was a step back in that regard. Hopefully the coaches can get him back on the right path.

Don't give up on Allen just yet. He has horrible shot selection at times and he had a terrible night at the line last night but he has been in the upper 70s from the line for his career. I agree that he is a frustrating player to watch because of the forced shots especially with 30 seconds left on the shot clock.

When I'm watching him I'm having flashbacks of Mike Taylor from the 2006-2007 season. Taylor would throw up some horrible shots but he would make a some of them every once in a while. He also carried the team on his back at times. He was one of the few people who could create off the dribble and that was often a reason for the bad shots. This is very similar to Allen on this years team.

Allen still has 1/2 of the season and is adjusting to a role that he hasn't had in the past. At MSU he was more of a role player and wasn't one of the top scorers on the team. I think he'll get hot one of these big games and carry the team on his back. He has stepped up in some huge games in the past so we know that he can do it.

I never investigated his stats from MSU much, I just kept hearing that he was a "shooter", which to me implies that he's a fairly above average 3 point shooter. Mike Nurse was a shooter. Mike Taylor was a shooter. Scotty is a shooter. Babb is a shooter.

I like some of the things Allen does, but when I hear "shooter" Allen's game is not what comes to mind.

When you define it that way, I agree.

Allen can shoot — he has a good enough shot to fill the role of "shooter" in the Nurse/Babb (I would add Sullivan to that list) but I don't necessarily think it's his mojo.

He's like a 1.5 guard. He seems better suited as PG, but his instinct is SG.

Allen is one of those players who would be a dynamo if he could create shots for a clone of himself.
