CBI...Yes or No

How much does it cost to run a game at Hilton... You pay $60,000, plus the cost of running the building.

Last night, the attendance was 10,000 and that was helped by season tickets. I'm guessing the CBI happens over spring break too, right? No students. How many you think go to that game. If you think 10,00, let's say the average ticket price was $25... That's only $25,000 in revenue. Parking is free. I know people love their Clone Cones, but is there enough generated in revenue to not lose money?

This isn't football where a homegame yields revenue of over a million.

Luckily I'm an accounting major, and assuming you meant to say 10,000 people at $25 average, that's not $25,000.

Absolutely if we get the invite we take it. Its not the ncaa or nit, no way to argue that, but its better than nothing.

We'd still draw plenty to that game. It says 60,000 in guaranteed money, im guessing that means ticket revenues would go against that number? (and either they keep all ticket revenue or theres a revenue split on tix after the $60,000 is made) Id bet we'd clear that pretty easily.. even if it were $10 a ticket that's still only 6,000 fans that'd have to show up, not counting concessions revenue and such.

Pretty much my thoughts as well.

Lets face it. For all those that are too good for this tourney... we havent seen ANY postseason since 05. We're 12th in the big 12. We arent too good for anything right now. If they offer, and its not a money loser for us (i dont see how it would be) we do it.

I say NIT or NCAA() only for a couple of reasons.
  • Think we would only fill the non-balcony areas for a CBI game. We weren't filling any areas, including student sections, for most games all the season.
  • I think the team has a European trip this summer...that will suffice for experience and team chemistry for next year's team.

its just nice because we get some more practice time and actual playing in game time situations. That is how I find it beneficial.

the brackets and dates are on their website....March 15-16 starts, but tons of dates afterwards to get some Hilton action with the students too. Last years finals were in st louis with billikens who lost, but it gave the fans some action. There will be no sellouts in Ames for these games....Heck, I like it cause it might give me a chance to sit in row 6 or 7 for a change and bump all the dead weight out of there.
Anyway, you have to do this for recruiting....for the simple sentence that Fred can say "We played in the post season". Even Bruce Pearl can't dirty recruit that.

NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let the likes Coach McDermott and Iowa play in the CBI.

I honestly might not watch it on TV. Do you realize who we'd be playing? Some crappy team.

I'm not interested in taking 7 hours to go watch ISU play the VCU's of the world. I honestly think we're above it. If the guys want to play that's certainly fine with me and I support it. I know I'll be making fun of Iowa when they go. I'm not big on rewarding mediocrity but I may be in the minority.

While we're at it, I think we should add a few more bowl games.

Now this made me laugh. Students will be gone on Spring Break, and anybody who loves college basketball understands just how worthless this "tournament" really is. This is the kind of "reward" that society should avoid.

So if we do accept an invite and host a home game does this mean that you will not attend as a form of protest?
