Casey’s store quality has been decreasing. Wawa, Sheetz and Kwik Star are all on the rise. Race Track has also been improving their quality. As the world turns into more grab and go, only option is to make C Stores sexy and appealing and more of an experience beyond gas, gross bathroom and a sketchy meal.

Incoming unpopular opinion. I've heard a lot of praise for Kwik Star's fried chicken and chicken strips. I've tried both on a few occasions, and I guess I don't see what the hype is about. Not very crispy and nothing special on flavor. I feel like I could get a similar result with some frozen Tyson chicken strips in the air fryer at my house. Are some locations better than others? Is there a better time of day?
They're not bad, but they're also not particularly special either, in my experience. They taste like what I'd expect gas station chicken to taste like.

That is one chain, that has really went down hill, expensive and mediocre.
No kidding. I remember going to Pizza Ranch in my youth because it was decent and cheap. We took the kids about a year ago, and it was the first time I'd set foot in a Pizza Ranch in several years. The quality is still decent, but the price has gone way up.

We usually do bone in. 8 piece, big side, and rolls is like $15. I love that package.

The price for the buffet is ridiculous. I like the chicken but not taken our family there with the prices. Havent been to the Ames one in years.

Casey's: 2478 stores
Kwik Trip/Star: 873 stores
Buc-ees: 48 stores
Not sure you can compare Buc-ees to the other two, Kwik Trip and Casey's are small gas stations that also sell food. Buc-ees is an experience in itself. They have both a bakery while also having BBR cooked at the site. They opened their first store in 1982, and have less than 10 planned for the coming year. Buc-ees also pays their employees excellent wages, insurance and a 401K plan at 6%. They also start their employees with 3 weeks vacation.

Best gas station chicken I have ever had, Not the most spicy, etc. but best quality, cooking and deal. Don's Motor Mart in Lake Mills Iowa.

By far the best quality I have ever had. Unless its changed in recent years, it is really good. If anyone is ever in Lake Mills, give it a shot.

edit: The chick strips are the best but bone in is really good too!

Casey’s sucks. Only reason I ever stop at them is because I drive a lot for work in a company truck and we are in small towns quite a bit. Most often the only gas station there. Bathrooms are always disgusting. Workers don’t seem to give a ****, a few exceptions here and there, and for the love of all things holy, could not be slower checking you out at the counter.

The kwik trip by my house could have one person working the register and 20 people in line and will proceed to use all 4 registers and get through all 20 in a minute. That same 20 person line at Casey’s would take until the next morning, I **** you not.

Amen. It’s fried ******* chicken. If it’s not KFC it’s all the same to me. The sauces are more important than chicken strips themselves.

Stopped by the Kwik Star north location in Ankeny yesterday and noticed they were advertising $19/hour starting wage for their 3rd shift, so I assume the starting wage is a few dollars less for the first two shifts.

Does Casey's start at $15/hour?

Kwik Star fried chicken is better than chicken strips IMO. The chicken strips are basically as you describe. Every time I've had a whole-ass fried chicken, it's been juicy and well seasoned.

KS does profit sharing as well. I don't know if Caseys does.
