The Casey’s in my (small) hometown is an absolute dump and I try to avoid it at all costs. The one 10 mins from where I live now (another small town) is pretty solid and the employees all seem to do a good job. It’s crazy the difference between the two when they’re only about 20 mins apart from each other. But I’ll still usually go out of my way to go to the local Kwik Stars

It seems like Casey's just hires the first 6 people who apply and interview regardless. Kwik Star employees are way more personable and just seem to actually give a sh*t about their job.

I have a half hour-ish commute for work so I stop at the one Kwik Star on the way a couple times a week for gas and usually a sandwich every now and then. Never have bothered with rewards until one day the lady at the register said “Honey, you’re in here enough. Just get the rewards card for your benefit”. Just went and checked and I have a free ticket to a Twins or Brewers game lol

Casey's slide seemed to start after the Canadian company takeover bid perhaps five or six years ago. I guess they don't want any other companies finding them an attractive merger partner again. Nice work on that part, unfortunately Casey's is not attractive to customers either anymore.

On another issue, Why would anyone get a pizza there unless absolutely necessary? When you meet the typical help and see the restrooms you have to question the food service cleanliness. Also, their pizzas seem to be a lot worse than I remember. The last one we picked up months ago was trash, and it was the only one we had for a couple years before that.

Their pizzas are just soggy crust and all cheese. I will say their breakfast burritos are actually pretty good. But other than that their food is crap, including their pizzas.

Casey’s has always sucked.
This. I've traveled through a lot of rural areas in my job and Casey's have always been poorly staffed and disgusting. There were some nice ones here and there but a lot of small town Casey's always sucked. Hell, it was major upgrade when they got bathrooms that didn't require you to go into a closet behind the register in the 90s and 2000s.

Kalona may be the prime Casey’s example around had the town pretty much to themselves ever since it went in.

And I’d guess a money making machine.

Kwik Star being constructed at the intersection of 1 and 22.

Things just got real.

The Caseys on Ivinedale Drive in Ankeny by the new water tower seems to have good employees versus most Caseys stores. It is an exception for sure.

You're assuming that people actually apply for the jobs.

I dont understand while everyone hates caseys. Maybe **** towns, but I still like it. People hate when popular
Because they finally saw that convenience stores don't have to be filthy with bathrooms you need a hazmat suit to use. Kwik Star isn’t perfect but I know it's pretty damn likely my wife or son can use the restroom with a significantly lower hepatitis risk.

As someone said before, it certainly seems like the Casey's strategy is get the store going and then focus on the next acquisition. Kwik Star gets the store going and also maintains the KT/KS standard.

Casey's does have a store cleanliness problem. Kwikstar has been good for competition. Caseys has added their own branded snacks. They also have better rewards, coffee and food. Kwikstar's food seems off.

You could actually get decent groceries at Kwik Trip including healthy options.

Casey's has tried that angle but it's not as good.

Live out by the mall in Ames. I’ll get a slice of breakfast pizza once a week. I’m an early bird and usually go to the one by the north Walmart. I quit going as they are always out by 6 am already. The one on Lincolnway near downtown is usually busy, and they are always making something The one in Somerset is my go-to now. Usually have both kinds pizza and since I go to the gym in Somerset, it’s not to far out of my way.

Was at the one on South Duff by B-Bops Sunday to get a fountain drink. Not too bad, but out of the way. The only time I will go out of my way to go to Kwik-Start on Dayton is for their chicken.

Agreed. I don't go to Casey's for clean stores and friendly employees. I go for the pizza and because they have locations everywhere.

Casey's is very hit or miss, they tend to hire the worst workers that do not show up, but some of them are fine, it just depends on the location. The one in Gilbert is clean and makes great pizza, the one in N. Ames is clean, but half the time the pizza sucks and the donut selection is horrible. Really just depends on the town and location if they have multiple stores.

My god has this gas station gone to ****. Employees are clueless and slower than humanly possible, bathrooms are terrible, etc. Using my rewards was almost an impossible task for the person working tonight. Using what I have in rewards left and switching full time to kwik star or QT. End of rant.
If you get the Kwik Star debit card you save 3 cents a gallon. Plus like 5% for in-store purchases...and you don't have to enter your rewards stuff, it's tied to the card.
