Campbell help Rogers with roster

Winner of the most absurd post on the interwebs for the week. Check Cyclones in the NFL during the Campbell era versus the prior 50 years. To say he couldn’t evaluate talent is sour grapes.

Campbell dusted us in the end. Tale as old as time, but to suggest he wasn’t a good coach and talent evaluator is flat wrong.
I can’t support that the post is absurd until I see a few CJFR recruiting and portal classes. The premise of the post is that CJFR is a better recruiter than Campbell. We don’t know the answer to the question yet, therefore the premise cannot be absurd.

We’ll, if you were a betting man, and based on our history, you can come to some conclusions. But, I hope Jimmy can surpass Matt. It’s just going to be a tall task.

He did the right thing though. Anyone thst wanted to stay had to be vetted by Rogers. If he felt he could get someone better, you let them go. Harsh to an extent, buts it’s a production business and if you’ve been here a couple of years with no production, you’ll likely be asked to move on.

This is a little deeper than "Campbell helped with the roster." A few things happened and I'm not perfectly sure in which order but I don't think it went as planned…..

-I believe Campbell gave some guys spots at PSU that he didn't intend because JR didn't want to keep them…
How many guys do you think were in this category?
According to the article, Campbell and CJR talked after he had cherry picked 23 from the Cyclone roster.

This is a good summary, but you left off that Campbell gave everyone that wanted to stay an inflated idea of how much money they should demand to stay. CJR didn't bite and established his own values. Players felt unwanted because they didn't get what they demanded, not that CJR didn't want them to stay. JCR and staff should write a book on game theory for college football coaches.
I didn't know Campbell was giving guys figures. That's new info. That lead me to believe he thought JR was going to be desperate and overpay for some guys. The good thing is that whatever happens will be on JRs terms and there won't be any "well he wanted to maintain Campbells roster and who could blame him" stuff. It was pretty bleak there for awhile but JR did also beat Campbell for some guys and got some transfers PSU was after at least in some capacity.

Everyone already knows but I'm really optimistic going forward. This is going to be a whole new attitude that I think corners of the fanbase kind of wanted to see incorporated into the old program where there is going to be a little more outward aggressiveness and "swag", I guess, for lack of better terms and these guys aren't hiding from talking about winning everything. Is that the expectation from fans? Of course not, but that's the staffs expectations and while I didn't really care a whole lot at the time about some of the roundabout excuse-making, it was bizarre in 2021 when Campbell ranted about the "not my goals" thing. When JR talks about 2025 WSU, you can see it visibly bother him that they didn't win 10 games like he said he should have. I don't think a little bit of delusion is bad at all as long as it's limited to outcomes. Obviously being delusional in terms of talent level or your staff isn't good but looking at close results and expecting to win every single one despite that just not being statistically is what I want. People will see when he steps in front of media that losses are not okay and he won't be there to fluff it up.

I’ve reached the age where I’m smart enough to realize money ain’t everything.
Yeah and with that age comes experience. Doesn't sound like you're 18-21 making the same decisions that our former players are/where.

I think it's time for the fans here to get over themselves and move on.

F Matt Campbell if he really thought Rogers should have kept the players at ISU that he didn’t want to take with him to PSU.

Guess what Matt…. you could have had all your players on your team if you wouldn’t have left and abandoned them. F off with that BS!

For the most part, Campbell took a bunch of Seniors. And then a few untested young guys. Pretty much the only exceptions to that are Neal and Eskildsen. No doubt this year is going to suck watching a bunch of former Cyclones rolling into the playoff with a cake schedule. But, after this coming season, it won't look like ISU in different uniforms any more. Most of the rest of the players that went hardly played a snap for ISU. He basically took ISU's starters as a transition class before he could start recruiting HS again.

As far as other players we lost or let go, we weren't going to beat PSU for many players given our whole coaching staff moved there. And, there were guys like Jontez Williams who commanded a huge amount on the open market. I wish that we could have kept Sama, Hawthorne, Bell, Taylor and Cummings-Coleman. But, maybe they were asking for more than we were willing to spend. Doesn't make a lot of sense to give those guys a huge bag when we have a whole roster to fill.

100%.

I already like CJFR attitude better than the carefully curated corporate persona Campbell put out. I want my coach to swear, I want him to be grumpy when it's warranted, I want him to crush all barriers in front of him and do it while talking a little smack. I'm excited to see how things go.
