Campbell help Rogers with roster

I'm not too mad at Campbell for leaving and taking the best players, JFR did the same.

But Campbell can take a long walk off a short pier if he gets pissy about what happens to the table scraps he didn't want.

I had a high school coach that quit as soon as he knew the talent would dry up but then would bash what the coaches were doing who were willing to still coach the ensuing teams despite that.

I wasn't even that upset he left but if CMC is like this that doesn't help his cause.

I’m cautiously optimistic that Rogers has built a roster that can be competitive with the middle tier of B12 teams.
But what we all knew would eventually happen is now happening. The B1G and SEC have the money to steal away any good QB in the Big 12 or anywhere. I'm not sure there will be many teams in conference we can't compete with because they are all getting looted by the P2.

I was initially afraid Rogers would bring in nothing but a bunch of Jack Rabbits & a few Cougars essentially building an FCS roster (which is kinda what Cignetti did so maybe it'd work). I was mildly impressed with what he was able to do with the offensive line, acquiring 3 athletes from other Power 5 programs and a few veteran starters from smaller schools. I think the talent is there; Tyler Roehl needs to make it a cohesive unit. We'll see. I am quite excited to see a defensive line that gets after the quarterback because we haven't had that since Will McDonald.

Jimmy himself even said the same.

The Sandusky showers sure gives a different meaning to Campbell's old saying that he ran into the ground... "what are you doing when no one's watching".... he may want to drop that one from the rotation at Penn State.
That is the funniest thing I've read in weeks!

Have a hard time believing Campbell had anything meaningful to dicuss with Rogers with all the players he took with him. If he really gave a damn what happened to the remaining players then he should have just taken them with him to PSU too. Rogers and Campbell are not the same coaches and it's none of Campbell's business how Rogers assembled the roster after he left.

Remember when TJ took over the BB program and essentially told some guys he'd prefer they transfer out? There was a big stink about that happening with Bolton who was probably the best player on the roster from the disastrous 2 win season. New coaches want to coach guys that fit the system they want to run and they have no obligation to keep anyone they don't think will be a good fit. I used to be all about loyalty in college sports but my mindset on that has changed with the NIL/portal era where we rarely see top players choose to stay at 1 school for their entire career. I would like to think there are guys that want to hang around regardless who is coaching but we just saw how that goes first hand now.

I'm glad for the guys that did stay too. But no offense if we are talking about guys that were not part of the 2 deep last season being pushed out over the coaching change I'm sure the same happened at PSU too when Campbell brought in his guys so either this is a bogus story or if it is indeed true then Campbell can piss off and offer those guys spots at PSU if Rogers doesn't have plans for them here. Rogers still has to build a competitive roster than can win and if he can bring in a guy that is better than whatever Campbell didn't take with him to PSU then he has every right to recruit and bring in those guys. Even Campbell while here said no 1 guy is just handed a spot because he's been here longer. If a freshman comes in and beats him out he's going to play the guy that gives us a better chance to win.

Rogers is probably better at talent evaluation than Campbell, Campbell was more of a 4 sport athlete recruiter from a good family. Rogers literally doesnt care about all that, he is more like, how hard can I push you and a tape reader. I honestly doubt there was much input that Rogers put into action. Also Campbell realizes his only chance at a statue is Ames so he need to keep on good terms.
Not saying I don't believe you but would you mind expounding a bit on why you believe that about Rogers?

Funny how Campbell taking a ton of ISU players with him pissed off both the ISU and Penn State fan bases.
Yeah. Since we have no idea who and how hard Matt recruited players to follow him I will give him a little benefit of the doubt. Was he supposed to tell players like Hanson and Brehmer, "No you need to stay at Iowa State"?

News flash , typically when you switch jobs you're more concerned about success at your new company rather than your old one. I have no doubt that the advice he gave Rogers was what he felt was accurate. First he didn't have to do anything and secondly, Rogers didn't have to take his advice. And, if you fall into the Matt's a selfish prick camp then it's in his best interest to have all the players he recruited be successful and make him look better.

Agreed. I saw something a couple of weeks ago about a children's charity / organization being a part of Rocco's NIL. I'm sure it is a fine organization and a worthwhile cause that does good things, but the "for the children" thing just kind of creeped me out a little given the history in Happy...er..scarred for life...Valley.

He's never getting a statue. I'm of the opinion that even Curt Cignetti hasn't earned a statue at IU yet. It requires a combination of longevity and unprecedented success, or something historically significant like Jack Trice.

What is that combination? Not sure, I just don't think Campbell did it. Win a Big 12 title / make a playoff in the same amount of time he spent here? Probably, but even that would have been an uphill battle given the roster attrition when he left. I don't think that is his fault - it's just the way the world is now. But there are many examples of people that would have gotten certain accolades in one era that don't get them in another era.

I also don't think Campbell gives two sh*ts about a JTS statue, so it works out.

I agree with most of what you said. Another thing to get a statue is loyalty. Like retire from Iowa State like Orr did.

Doesn't make me feel better. He took nearly our entire 2 deep with him... F him!
But Campbell didn't force players to leave ISU. Players left for what they thought were GREENER pastures.

People need to realize the new reality of college sports:
  1. Players will tend to follow the biggest paycheck. College sport is professional sport.
  2. Players have tremendous loyalty to the coaches they know vs. the coach they don't know
  3. Players will jump at opportunities that allow them to compete on the biggest stage.
