Sometimes, the fundamentals are just wrong. I fear that's what is going on in COMO. When your natural rival switches from Ku to Arkansas, and you're the lone Yankee in a Dixie conference, it's hard to make a case for much of anything.
This is what I warned my Mizzou friends would happen if they left the Big 12. All they could think about back then was how much they didn't trust OU and how much money and stability the SEC would provide.

The money is probably cool, but the stability they got was relegation to the lowest tier of SEC football relevance.

I don’t think young cyclone fans realize how big of a deal this is, because keeping Matt here is a really big freakin deal.
This is basically where Earl Bruce got us 40 years ago. We have a chance to finally see how far we can take this program. Even Chizik's staff understood the potential ISU has if we could string together some good seasons - Bolt and McFarland said as much at their coaching clinic.

I really feel like a couple more years of staff consistency will be HUGE for truly setting a new standard for ISU football - winning, competitive football with opportunities for some really special (talking 10+ win) seasons when the stars align.

Yeah.... ooorrrrrr it could be they are going out to recruit guys for 2020 and if you do the math they can say "Hey, I just signed a contract that guarantees I will be here the whole time you are in school!" Sorry, I know conspiracy theories are much more fun.

About as believable as thinking Campbell tells a kid his contract "guarantees" he will be here as long as the kid is in school...

There are no "guarantees" from either side.

Right. What if the kid is on the seven year plan like my brother was? It would be nice to have Campbell unable to leave because one of his recruits is taking his time finishing his degree.

Hopefully, he leaves early and we get a coach that can get us to 9 wins consistently. A big name hire with a competent OC and ST coach.

You know, I would guess that most people on CycloneFanatic.com have a post or two they would like to take back with some hindsight and perspective.

I do think that the people with the worst reputations on here tend to keep on repeating statements and posts that are consistently dumb or, to give them the benefit of the doubt, just a never-ending, poorly conceived troll job.

And just so we're clear, since you've never posted anything on here that makes any logical sense, you're in the latter camp.

That's not a compliment.

It just hit me:

Our own "Loyal Sons" in Fred and Cael couldn't stay forever true. Whatever get over it...but someone with no previous ties to this University has turned down opportunities to interview with programs well above us in historical stature, even NFL jobs.

For the first time in my 25 years as a Cyclone, it truly feels like we're "the darling of the ball". The level of gratitude I have for Matt Campbell could not be any higher.

If Campbell stays for the long term, there are inevitably going to be rebuilding years and years where we dont quite meet expectation. It happens to all of the great ones. When one of those years comes about, I hope we as a fan base are ready to show the same faith Campbell showed in us.

So when Pollard hinted that Campbell had actually wanted the large buyout in his contract to quell rumors about him leaving you don't think that was motivated by recruiting? What other reason would he really care?

I wouldn't count on it. Too many fans are already b****ing about going 7-5 this year.
