Did I say that? No. Maybe it's just me but if I were suspended and trying to get back into good graces of the coach, I wouldn't be out 3-4 nights a week.
Especially when it's a situation like Jerome Tiller, Darius Reynolds, Donnie Jennert, etc.
No, you didn't specifically write that...but I don't know what your point is. You mentioned trying to get back in the good graces of the coach...well, I think based on his being reinstated last winter after having the charges dropped means that he WAS in the good graces all along of his coach, and whether or not he was going out too much or not had absolutely nothing to do with it.
Frankly, I feel like criticizing him for going out is piling on Bubu. Now...before everyone who is in favor of him being off the team, whether that happened just a few days ago or if you feel he never should have been reinstated all along jump on my throat and start screaming at me, I am not suggesting he is a hero, angel, or even much of a victim. IMHO, Iowa State doesn't come off looking all that great for kicking him off the team 5 and a half months after originally reinstating him. From a PR standpoint, it appears capricious and arbitrary and, yes, a bit cruel to me. Either keep him off the team permanently or let him stay on with the program, but don't jerk him around like that.
But guess what? You won. He is off the team. Why are you still angry about this?
Certainly possible, but if it was just an AD thing leath probably wouldn't have made the call.

Didn't read all 17 pages, so this has probably been said, but it just occurred to me...it's ironic that this situation is exactly the type of transfer we would welcome IN to the program. Good kid, made a mistake, caught up in university politics...
I'd disagree with that. I don't know that we welcome in people who have allegedly sexually abused others. Steal a cell phone, sure. This is sort of a horse of a different color. Again - Bubu made a very bad choice here. Even assuming the verdict was incorrect, it's not a great thing for the university.
I am not really excited or mad that he's leaving, I just think it was a prudent decision.
Not that I disagree with your thought (and nor did I read this whole thread so I don't know if anything changed) but technically Bubu was found innocent in a court of law, correct? So we really can't say he allegedly sexually abused others.

no, that's not correct. A court of law didn't find him anything. The charges were dropped. That is not the same thing as being found innocent. You are correct, though, as far as the law is concerned, he never sexually abused anyone.
What verdict are you writing about? I don't know where you have gathered all these facts upon which you base your conclusions either?
Fred Hoiberg thought the prudent decision was to have Bubu on the team.

I don't think people say that in -any- situation involving sexual misconduct. In a situation like this which is clearly a he said/she said case people will say that. The case was thrown out of court because the alleged victim fabricated evidence. I think that it is acceptable to question her motives in that case. It doesn't mean that there was no crime committed. Maybe she was scared and felt she needed to have more "evidence" to win in court, but she opened herself up to scrutiny by fabricating evidence.
There are people out there who intentionally target extremely drunk girls or even try to get them drunk (or more drunk) in order to take advantage of them. Those people are despicable and fully deserve any charges levelled at them. There are also people who are drunk at the bar and have what they believe is consensual sex with others who are also drunk. The good people who have sex with drunk people fall into the second category. Though the law makes the issue very black and white, in my opinion the morality of these situations which involve alcohol is very grey.
I'd like to believe that in a clear case of sexual assault or rape no one here will make the accused into the victim.
You may be right, but I don't think there was any verdict that found him guilty of sexual assault. Fred and the AD at one time thought it OK to let him back on the team and nothing has changed regarding the facts or evidence since then.
I'm also not mad or excited he's leaving. But I do think if this was the decision, then it should have been made last year.
The charges were dropped. That's not a court verdict, but it was a finding. I'm sorry I'm not jumping off the deep end and assuming Fred is going to leave, like you are. The university who employs Fred clearly made a different decision.
I think that's the key point that will forever cloud this topic. We, the general public, will never know the truth(heck the accuser was fabricating evidence) of what happened that evening to make an informed decision of whether this was a prudent or not a prudent move by the university.
To say Bubu deserved to be booted from team for his actions is somewhat unfair. It's entirely plausible that this female was completely fine with what happened that night. It's also plausible that she wasn't and kicking him off was justified.
What I was thinking of when I read through this thread too. Phones are a higher priority apparently.
