I would argue that last year was a bigger let down. That team was loaded.

Ok? Not sure anybody was arguing otherwise. Last year is a bigger letdown. This year is more frustrating.

The second 7-5 (7-6 w/ the bowl) will forever be one of the most painful seasons in cyclone history. More than this year for sure, IMO.
I agree with this. Started 0-3 in conference with a double OT loss at Neb, a loss at home to a Baylor team that never won a B XII road game until then I think, then an OT loss at Mizzou. Then got on a roll, scoring points in bunches and not giving up more than17 in four straight Ws. Ending the season with an OT loss at KU and a three point loss in the bowl game vs TCU. That could easily have been a 10-11 win season.

if we want to be a power running team, than maybe look at what Minnesota does. They have lost some games, but they have also have a lot of injuries. But I really like their scheme. They bullied Iowa's defense all over the field on Saturday.

Without looking at weights etc, their line appears to dwarf ISU.

I know people are frustrated. My point is just because you are frustrated right now doesn't mean you get to look at 2018 or 2019 or 2020 and rewrite what happened based on your feelings right now.
Who did? You know it's possible to rate this program outside the losers mentality many seem to want to hold on to. Demand better.

For me, the answer is 100% no. We've been through seasons like that, and that makes me believe we're just structurally disadvantaged and will never be competitive. This is 1000x better than that hopelessness. And for that, we can thank Matt Campbell and his entire staff. They showed ISU can compete, even in this relatively frustrating year.

The problem here is that 7-5 should be looked at as a really good season every time it happens here, but fans are morons.

They only played 11 games that season, went 7-4.

So hey at least they didn't lose 6!

That team was weird as F too.

I don't feel like your responses really have anything to do with what I'm saying.

There are posts all over the board but here is a poster calling the Campbell era "mediocre success". Do you agree?

Has it, though? The offense was good enough to achieve a mediocre level of success. It has been far from "solid."

Was he talking about '01? The 'he was in' year, the year of 'the run' and finally the year of losing to barely FBS UCONN to finish the season? Bowl game loss to Boise State on the blue turf year, 7-6 I believe.

Mediocre by national standards yes. That's what I'm saying when I say it's possible to rate Matt's performance outside of our horrible history. Good for ISU's history, but that's like saying good by Kansas standards and isn't the standard we should hold ourselves to.

He was fired after the 2006 season because of his performance in the 2003 season?

It was definitely a part of it.

You can't have debacle seasons like 03 and 06 and also not have better seasons than we saw in 04-05. Just as this years criticism isn't just about this year's debacle but about failing to take advantage of what was billed as one of the most talented teams in school history

'05 I think but the one you're talking about is '02. They finished 7-6 regular season (played a lot of games), and 7-7 after Boise.

That collapse was also an all timer.

Didn’t every team have loaded teams last year due to Covid years? Still a disappointing season, but a lot of players were back almost everywhere.

Don’t want to rehash the Dan ending, Bruns mentioned he thought Dan would have fixed things. That’s his guy though so.
