Who would your pick to be a breakout player this year? Definition can vary from person to person; could be someone who has played and you think will be a star this year. Could be someone who has no playing experience that you think will make a big impact.

If you believe in the safety hype, my picks would be Marcus Neal and Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman.

I'm going to go with a not so obvious choice. I'm going with Ka'Mori Moore. I just think we'll need someone else to step up on the interior D-line other than Big Citrus and Hawk. I know Heacock has been talking up Carnell and Jace Gilbert, but I won't believe it until I see it. The reason I believe it with Moore is because he's already got the size at 6-1, 320, while both Carnell and Gilbert would be a tad bit undersized for my liking at 290 and 280 respectively.

Having said that, I sure hope Overby and/or Eskildsen join him as breakout players.

The breakout player” isn’t really doable. More like one at every position.

Given the situation, say, at wideout, I’d even have a hard time just saying one. Maybe four?

Eskildsen, Sowell, Townsend and Overby. Intentionally in alphabetical order.

TE: Cooper Alexander

RB: Yeah, too many. Everyone? In different terms of “breakout”.

OL: See above. James Neal in one sense of the term.

QB: Can Rocco still “break out”? 4K yards?

DL: Ike Ezeogu is the easy one. Tam McDonough a close second. Trey Verdon could flash.

LB: Pick one? Uh, yeah, nope. Not listing the six or seven guys who have all flashed at one point or another.

CB: Start with Tre Bell. Other guys should flash.

S: Jamison Patton. Ta’Shawn James. Marcus Neal. Carson Van Dinter. Khijohnn Cummings-Coleman.

Oh, Coop should blow up, maybe AA year.

ST: I’ll reach and call Will Hawthorne being a beast in coverage, based on nothing but HS tape and numbers.

Greek alphabet?

From the recliner, I’ve been waiting for Abu to learn how to read blocks and recognize when to tap his 5th gear to explode thru the hole and when to cut back when the defense over pursues. He has the speed and power, just hasn’t truly adjusted to the speed of the game and how to make decisions at the Big 12 level. I hope he is the breakout player.

On the defensive side of the ball, instinctively i would say jontez williams, but that is not him establishing himself, it is more of him becoming a premier corner in college football. I honestly think that he has the capability to be a top 10 defensive back, if not defensive player in the country. If i had to pick someone that is under the radar, i would go with marcus neal or tre bell. I also think Cannon butler could be a force on the line

I think Xavier Townsend will be a stud. He is very fast, and has big play potential. I see him being a jaylen noel replacement in the near future
Is Xavier really that fast? I haven’t heard his name come up when people talk about the fastest guys on the team. Eskildsen seems to overwhelmingly be considered the fastest guy on the team.

Not saying X isn’t fast, just hadn’t heard that. I hope he is obviously.
