Breakout player prediction

Not smart enough to say who, but I'll go with a guy from the DL. Other than Dom, new guys are going to get a lot of snaps. And my guess Coach Heacock will rotate DL players pretty liberally during September.

IMO by season end we'll be talking a lot about a player like: Ezeogu, McDonough, Malone, Moore, Gilbert, Carnell, Butler ...
Can’t disagree. We may well have three all conference player across the front by the time December rolls around.

Townsend’s QB room down there was hot garbage. Anyone that was at the UCF game last year saw this to be true. We don’t know what he can and can’t do yet.
I have seen what he can do and I think he's gonna have a really good season. Will probably be great next year after having a year in our system and a year together with Rocco.

Abu is a real wild card. The talent is there, but he just doesn’t have the natural traits or vision. He originally committed to Iowa State as a DB, but ended up playing RB as a senior in HS and we let him switch to RB here as well. He either needs to pull it together and read blocks or we need to find ways to get him in space.

Zaimir Hawk (DL). He's just a RS sophomore who already has a lot of snaps under his belt. He's gonna shine this season.
I hope you are right. Above average DL play as a unit would make this a Top 20 defense. And that would really enable the complimentary football offense , i.e. lots of run game and TE passing and ball control.

CMC could finally break out the 15 personnel offense he has longed to run lol.

For breakout players, I’ll pick guys who either haven’t done much here (yet) or are a surprise:

1. Marcus Neal - I think that he steps right in for Freyler and doesn’t miss a beat.

2. Trevor Buhr - He’s gonna be a force in the running game and our most physical OL.

3. Tamatoa McDonough - Our best pass rusher. I don’t know that he’ll be in on a ton of rushing downs, as I think Hawk will move out to DE at times, but you can bet McDonough will be getting after the QB.

4. Eli Green - He was injured most of last year, but he has experience of being the man at ndsu and I think he starts. Townsend will play a lot, but I think that they’ll move him around some.

Totally agree on Abu. Have always had a soft spot for him. I think his talent and ability are off the charts. He has shown he can make some flat out amazing runs…. just needs to eliminate some of the bad plays and he could be a star IMO. Rooting for him for sure!

Mouser was talking about 10 personnel last week.

I’m not sure you guys get it. CMC doesn’t really “ long” to play with a bunch of tight ends, we just didn’t have the personnel to attack effectively otherwise. One good WR a year, even two, just doesn’t do it.

Up until now. And with the last group of freshmen, this one, and the current commits, we’re really, really getting there.

On the OL, too.

Putting three or four speedy wideouts out there, when your OL is good enough to open holes and pass protect without a lot of help puts the max amount of stress on a defense.

In that same conversation he talked about "13 and even some 14 personnel" if it is the clip I saw.
