I heard the reason it is taking so long is because the finalizing involves TJ going with him. It’s a done deal according to my sources.
While yeah, I'm annoyed... how many of you would leave your job for 2-3x your current pay and a chance to meet whatever real aspirations you have?
Part of the reality of college football. Kids choose to play for a coach as much as a university. People weren't complaining when Matt Campbell and his staff were able to maintain roster stability over the last few years of portal activity.
And the reality is, if ISU hires a new head coach from outside, then we'll likely expect that coach to bring some of his players. Just the new reality of coaching changes.
Thats because besides us and PS fans... nobody really cares. We aren't a major FB program, and everyone is tired of the PS drama.

I heard that Campbell hesitated, and then Penn State cancelled football altogether.

Contract sticking point is that Sanderson will be traded back to ISU as Dresser's waterboy.
We got an awesome 10-year run from Campbell, and I think it was just time for him to move on. Otherwise, we risk getting Farentzed and letting the program go stale. ISU has never been in better shape, and it won't be difficult to attract an eager up-and-comer to be the next HC (I'm hoping for Scheelhaase). Matt will kill it at PSU and one day will be in the ISU hall of fame.
The fact this hasn't been made official, no presser conference or official announcement yet, is weird.
Not saying it isn't happening, but the longer it goes the better for ISU. But it would need to go a lot longer.
I've made peace either way, but obviously would rather have Campbell stay in Ames. I just hold hope that Penn State leaking information might've pissed him off to the point he had a long hard talk with AD JP & ISU.
I know ISU can't match 1:1, but I wonder how close they can come or whether that answer is "not even remotely close" and he's just finalizing paperwork at this point and it's taking longer than normal to sign and/or taking a long time to say his goodbyes to the team/staff not coming with him...
