BREAKING: Feazell commits

Don't forget Custer who was a 4-star but clearly didn't live up to that ranking.

Hoiberg didn't leave until June. Fred negated his job the last 2 years. That's why prohm has to fill 6 spots.
Oh boy, let's not rehash that. Thank you for the correction. My point was just that Prohm got a late start on the recruiting trail last summer. Considering this is his first full recruiting season at ISU, he's doing a fine job.

All Fred era high school recruits...

Ejim = worked out pretty nicely, though originally a TJ guy and took years of development to peak
McKnight = who?
Godfrey = transfer out after too much wacky weed
Railey = busted

0.5 / 4 (giving the half-credit for Melvin, but that really was more TJ and development)

Gibson = we thought he was really good when Royce was throwing him balls... after, not so much
Sledge = clearly not a Big 12 player, transferred out

0 / 2

Niang = 4* that worked out pretty well
Mitrou-Long = not a highly touted player, but excellent coaching and work on his part to develop
SDW = bust
Okoro = bust

1.5 / 4 (almost want to give you 1.5 for Georges, calling Naz more development than recruiting)

Thomas = busted while Fred was here, but TJ and Prohm seemed to get through to him, half-point
Morris = big hit

1.5 / 4 (same deal--Matt was a bust until Fred left town, ironically)

Custer = bust, transferred out quickly
You could throw The Greek in here, too, if you wanted to, but clearly a bust

0 / 1.5

So Fred brought in four good players out of high school...
(again, not counting Melvin as a holdover recruit from the previous staff)

Niang
Mitrou-Long
Thomas
Morris

Two of those made immediate impacts. Two had to develop, one under a different staff, to make an impact.

That's out of fifteen guys that Fred brought in out of high school, roughly.

Two lessons...

--this stuff is really hard to project and so much is hit-or-miss
--Fred wasn't some master of recruiting high schoolers, he batted a relatively low average

0.5 for Melvin Ejim? Big 12 PLAYER OF THE YEAR Melvin Ejim?
0.5 for multi-year starters Matt Thomas and Naz Long? Both might be in the top 5 all time 3 point shooters by the time they graduate.

The rest I agree were busts.

We did well staying on topic for 6 pages, good work team.

I think he's giving Fred 0.5 for Melvin because he was a McD recruit that Fred had to retain and for Naz because he was not as highly touted but was more of a player development success.

Well if you use math, take the top 25 teams in the country, if all of them have 5 starters that were all top 150 recruits, that makes 125 of the top 150 on those top 25 teams, leaving 25 top 150 players for the rest of the country. My point being, getting a top 150 kid is pretty good. Lard and long were both sub 125 guys and we were pretty excited about them.

This is true if he holds up to his ranking. But history shows that a top 100 guy is much more of a sure thing than a top 150 guy. My confusion with people on here posting like he's a game changer is that guys who are marginal top 150 rarely become game changers (my initial search on this guy had a rating from 247 of 161). I think Sherron Dorsey-Walker was a very similar rating. I think his offers shows his ranking may be a bit lower than is justified to, so maybe we have a diamond in the rough.

Like the Feazell get. Big guys take time, so we'll see how it all shakes out in a couple of years. Good piece to the larger puzzle. Now we need a couple of guards and we'll see where things go in the Spring.

Had Pitt, Bama, Baylor, and Miss. St. as committable offers.

People were excited about SDW but not everybody pans out. Also, SDW was up against Naz and Matt for playing time. I'm not sure of the timing on the transfer but we also brought Cooke in the year after he left.

I would agree but haven't seen it.

Thomas was the best Fred recruit. In the 50ish range.

Morris and Niang are in the same range as Feazell and Lewis.

Naz wasn't particularly recruited. He was like a 2* or a low 3*. He's easily the best story of the Fred era in terms of taking somebody unheralded and developing them into a devastating offensive weapon. Turning that level of recruit into the leading scorer in a game between ISU and KU, when both are in the Top 10, is really super impressive. Good job with that one, Fred.

If our roster next year is something like...

Donovan Jackson
Nick Weiler-Babb
Ray Kasongo
Simeon Carter
Cameron Lard
Jakolby Long
Solomon Young
Darius McNeill
KeyShawn Feazell
Terrence Lewis
FRESHMAN PG
JUCO/TRANS GUARD
JUCO/TRANS POST

...then I'm going to be Yoshi-level super happy!

Lewis is in the same range as Monte and Niang. Not Feazell.
