All Fred era high school recruits...
Ejim = worked out pretty nicely, though originally a TJ guy and took years of development to peak
McKnight = who?
Godfrey = transfer out after too much wacky weed
Railey = busted
0.5 / 4 (giving the half-credit for Melvin, but that really was more TJ and development)
Gibson = we thought he was really good when Royce was throwing him balls... after, not so much
Sledge = clearly not a Big 12 player, transferred out
0 / 2
Niang = 4* that worked out pretty well
Mitrou-Long = not a highly touted player, but excellent coaching and work on his part to develop
SDW = bust
Okoro = bust
1.5 / 4 (almost want to give you 1.5 for Georges, calling Naz more development than recruiting)
Thomas = busted while Fred was here, but TJ and Prohm seemed to get through to him, half-point
Morris = big hit
1.5 / 4 (same deal--Matt was a bust until Fred left town, ironically)
Custer = bust, transferred out quickly
You could throw The Greek in here, too, if you wanted to, but clearly a bust
0 / 1.5
So Fred brought in four good players out of high school...
(again, not counting Melvin as a holdover recruit from the previous staff)
Niang
Mitrou-Long
Thomas
Morris
Two of those made immediate impacts. Two had to develop, one under a different staff, to make an impact.
That's out of fifteen guys that Fred brought in out of high school, roughly.
Two lessons...
--this stuff is really hard to project and so much is hit-or-miss
--Fred wasn't some master of recruiting high schoolers, he batted a relatively low average
