***Bowl Games Thread***

Fields obviously still effected by the hit. Going to be interesting to see how that plays out as the game continues.

This rule is single handily ruining the game. That's insane. Letter of the law or not, that is just stupid to have that hit as an ejection-level hit. The rule was based around the neck and head injuries and they warped it into any sort of crown hit.

I absolutely hate this rule. Like you said this was to protect people from concussions. They already have a rule for spearing. Kicking guys out of the game is a damn joke.

Again, what is the defender supposed to do? Know beforehand what moves Fields is gonna do? Defender came ready to hit with shoulder and the qb moves....

It's solely called because of how he dropped his head. Nothing else mattered on that hit.

Pretty much the definition of targetting right there.
Then the rule needs to be changed. Sorry, that's a terrible having that type of hit as targeting. In no way should that be worth an ejection. This rule is killing some of these games.

The rule was made to protect the tackler as well as the player being tackled, they say. The goal is to get 100% of head contact out of the game.

(note: I don't like it either ... )

Body or head doesn't matter. It's that 47 dropped his head, basically looking at the ground to hit someone. Keep facemask straight forward, it's not a call.

But if he hadn't dropped his head then he would have hit Fields in his helmet, which would have been targeting. What is a defender supposed to do?

So if Fields didn't spin directly into 47's helmet there's no penalty? Why is it ejection worthy?

Helmet nailed Fields in the kidneys or spine.
Again the rule needs to be changed. The rule was originally around the whole concussion thing, so neck and above. It has morphed into anything overly physical now. Sorry, I know it may have been the correct call by the letter of the law, but that law needs to be changed if THAT hit warrants an ejection. Can't change my mind on that. These calls are ruining the balance of these big games.

Man, some of you just hate all targeting calls. That was 100% without a doubt targeting. And that’s to protect the defender. He’s lucky he didn’t break his neck with that tackle.

The ejection is dumb as **** though.

They should make the guy that gets called for targeting run 3 laps around the field and the other team gets a power playuntil he completes the laps.
