Mac chose the South end zone because he thought those of us sitting there could make a lot of noise on the metal bleachers and gain an advantage for his team. That is what he said after the game.

The rules of OT now are not the same as they were back then I believe
No, I'm refuting your claim that Iowa State chose to take the ball after winning the toss.
The second one that season. Oklahoma State had one the week prior (Aug. 31).
Toledo/Nevada bowl game the year before was the first FBS/I-A game with the OT rule.

I'm sure just like the big 10 claims all of Nebraska's history, the SEC claims all of Missouri's history. You know who coached that Toledo team? A familiar big 12 face, Gary Pinkel

Make that two of us. I transferred in Korean 101 - which qualified as my Communication Requirement, since I took Spanish for my foreign language requirement.I might be the only person of my era that graduated from ISU without Speech 211. Landscape Architect curriculum one year had a misprint with a speech elective rather than 211 so I jumped on that and took History of Motion Pictures and Cinematography which was a speech class. WTF. If I guy can get out of 211 he can get out of math, and I did.
I guess they were above average for an ISU o-line, but compared to every team in the country they were probably average. If Troy was running behind a really good line then he probably would have ran for 2,500 yards in back-to-back seasons. I think Augafa and Kohn were they only ones that were ever on an NFL roster. Not sure if either of them ever played in a regular season game or not.As I recall, TD's OL was better than average - coached by a great OL coach at all levels including the NFL, Steve Loney. Who, coincidentally, is or at least has been some kind of consultant for Campbell's staff.
