Best Global Warming article I have read

That's what I've heard too. That ONE SINGLE volcanic eruption puts out more CO2 than man has ever put out.

And causes Global cooling...on many levels...the acid rain droplets refract the light and energy from the sun...sun can't get in through other clouds and ash....ice caps build up, reflecting more of the sun's light, heat and energy back into space...a bad deal

The world's leading climate scientists, including those at our very own Iowa State, emphatically conclude that global warming has indeed begun, and the overwhelming evidence, they say, points to man's burining of fossil fuels. I'll think I'll trust the scientific community.
Maybe I'm just uniformed - just who is this John Coleman, and what are his education and scientific credentials?

I don't know, man. Those scientists are a RICH group of people and they get richer by the second if we buy into this. You do know rich scientists don't you??? Man, those guys are making BIG TIME cash to come up with all these lies about the climate trends. That is the arguement you are up against you know. The thing you have to understand is even if there was "proof" the earth climate was changing due to man, 80% of the people that don't believe it now still wouldn't, because they don't want to. Denial is VERY powerful.

Heck, I don't need science to think that it would be a good idea to diversify our energy sources. Just like you want diverse revenue streams in life, for retirement, for day to day living, we should try to find diverse ways to supply our energy demands...and the more renewable those avenues could be, the better.

I don't think that industrial pollutants are a good thing, and they should be reduced. I don't need Al Gore to tell me that.

The problem however, is the captains of Industry probably need some sort of doomsday scenario before they act, put money into R&D for other energy sources.

Some politicos need such scenarios to back away from allowing companies to build new refineries.

It's so damn complicated, and our trillion dollar fossil fuel energy infrastructure won't be easily changed.

Yeah, I agree. I guess I get frustrated on how divided our whole country seems to be on everything anymore. Dem/Repub, Global Warming/Oil is Awesome. Does anyone try to do what's really best anymore or do we all just take a side and start shooting at the other?

There was a small piece in the Register last fall about the 3 ISU scientists that agree with global warming, sorry I don't have a link but they came from the meteorology dept, the science dept and someother. They are 3 of 2500 that agree with global warming.

I see it as a case of follow the money. Do you actually think these 3 would jeapordize those guaranteed research grants by dismissing global warming? The universtiy way is to secure as much government money as you can and to ride the funds as long as you can.

The article states there are 31,000 scientists that dispute global warming.

John Coleman started the Weather Channel.

I put people who bash the science of Global Warming in the same category as people who promote Intelligent Design.

Nobody has a bigger stake in discrediting global warming than the coal and oil industry. I really don't see the monetary gain to most scientists, including that flaming liberal organization NASA who says it is real, it's accellerating, and very likely caused by man made greenhouse gasses. I'll just use common sense. Over and over mother nature has shown us that more man made pollution is bad and less is good. I can't imagine any good result from dumping billions and billions of tons of man made greenhouse gases into the atmosphere for over a hundred years now (and the adverse health results for millions of people ought to be enough to make anybody concerned about their fellow man want to seek cleaner forms of energy). Couldn't hurt to have a little less of our money flowing to middle east dictators and their terrorist friends either.

While I strongly believe man is contributing to global warming it is only half the problem. The other half is the removal of trees which absorb C02. Some people have talked about making machines to absorb C02 and while that is a good idea a tree probably does it a lot more effectively and cheaper than a possible machine.

I may be an idiot, but here is the one thing I do not understand. The whole global warming thing is mainly the amount of CO2 we are putting back into the air. Trees and plants remove CO2 from the air. So why are we not just spending billions of dollars replanting the trees and plants we tear down out of the rain forest, and finding new places to plant lots of trees? Wouldn't that be cheaper, and maybe help solve some of the problem?

I never hear anyone talk about that much, but then like I said, I'm an idiot.

I actually think you are correct. I think removing the C02 is just as important if not more important. Which is why the destruction of the rain forests are such a problem.

From the early 1800s until the mid-1900s, "the scientific community" believed in Eugenics, too.

Eugenics is the extermination of "undesirable" ethnic groups to improve the breed of man.

Back in the 70s and 80s, the "overwhelming majority" of some of the exact same scientists belived in man-caused global cooling, too. But this time, they're really, really sure. They think. Maybe. Possibly.

I believe that is called "The world is a complex place."

It's also called: "Reality".

I put people who bash the science of Global Warming in the same category as people who promote Intelligent Design.

I was unaware that "global warming" had anything to do with "science". I thought it was a political movement founded by those who need to feel "guilty" of something.

It amazes me how many people get a pseudosexual kick out of blaming "mankind" for "ruining the earth."

I put people who support man-caused global warming in the same category as those in their thirties living in their parents basement.

Guess I'll have to e-mail the climatologists at NASA and tell them according to you they should be living in their parents basements.

And while you're doing that, I'll go ahead and email the national academies of sciences of all major industiralized countries, including the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and tell them the same thing. Scientists, climatologists - what do they know?

Hmm, if global warming is not happening yet the frenzy around it causes me to pay out the butt to drive somewhere while millions go hungry because we are turning our food into "cleaner" fuel I would like to take my chances with the weather since it is hard to say what is really happening there, anyways. Gas prices and starving people are much easier to prove.

What makes you think that people are somehow deprived of food because of cleaner fuel? Those same millions were starving before there was ethanol fuel.

The only direct connections are twofold:

1. We're extending the supply of petroleum, however slightly, reducing reliance upon it with renewable fuels, and

2. Farmers are getting a decent price for their crops for the fist time in fifty years or more.

I like the score 31,000 scientists against, 2500 for, and that number is shifting to the against. Lets go John Coleman, take Al Gore to court. I really want to know and not just propagandandized. If I think it's a fair trial by an impartial judge and jury and AG can convince them global warming is real then I will buy into it.

Right now I think it is a politial instrument to dupe the weak minded left.

Over the past several years, there have been many scientists that have challenged Al Gore and his backer to a honest debate. They have ignored the offer at every opportunity.

The frenzy that the "Global Warming" camp has created has given these people a way to make a living off of touring, grants, and donations in the name of their version of the truth.

These are the same type of people that have created environmental issues for years so that they can justify their salaries. If there is nothing wrong, there is no reason to ask for money from the government and the Hollywood types.

If 31,000 scientists have voted against this compared to the 2500 that
"patted each other on the back" in support of it, it is not hard to see what the majority of scientists actually think.
