You need a scary one, not a cuddly cute one. Well, on second thought, a scary one might scare the crap out of them.
Do you know which type of birds are the largest problem? Years ago I observed grackles repeatedly clean out their nests by carrying pouches of poop hanging from their beaks. They determined that my deck was the place to dispose of them. This started my war on grackles. When I got minimized the grackle problem I discovered that there was very little poop being dropped by other birds on my deck. I try to remove grackle nests from my trees before they lay eggs.
I learned that grackles do not like safflower seeds so I turned my summer feed over to safflower. What drops down on the ground can germinate but you can bake it for 10 minutes and it will kill the seed but the birds don't know the difference.
