Best game ever by Cyclone PG?

....wasn't able to watch, but that's 20 and 30 points, lots of other things and no TO's I believe the last two games for Monte. Definitely up there with the best two game stretch that I can remember.

The TX game didn't feel like he was the focal point, i.e. he was back to doing A LOT without it being obvious. Was last night similar?

Hope it continues. FWIW I think Tinsley's game...he just went to work along with the rest of the team. That game is on Youtube last I knew and it's still really fun to watch.

Just off the top of my head, Monte's 30 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals and zero turnovers on 10-16 from floor and 4-5 from 3 is the best line I've seen from a Cyclone PG.

Some other contenders: Tinsley vs UCLA in Sweet 16, 2000. Tinsley triple double vs Mizzou in 2000. Stinson @ KU, 2005. Garrett @KSU 2010. Kane vs Baylor 2014, Kane vs UNC in NCAA Tournament. Morris vs. KU last year. I'm probably forgetting some.

But tonight may top them all. Your thoughts?

I enjoyed this post as much as any I have read in a long time. Thanks Blum.

Brent--don't forget about Tinsley's farewell to Hilton!!! Clinched a 2nd straight Big 12 crown with this line:

29 points (23 in 2nd half)
5 assists
5 steals
2 blocks
1 turnover

Given the stakes, this gets my vote for best PG performance at ISU. Afterwards, Eustachy said: "I haven't seen every game that's ever been played here, but I don't know who in the history of Iowa State has impacted winning more than Jamaal Tinsley. He's Secretariat. He's a thoroughbred."

What about Kane in the NCAA tourney against UNC. had 7 turnovers (ugh) but also had 24 pts 10 boards, 7 assists and the game winner. Much better team than OSU although Monte did play great last night.

I forgot to include the 4 rebounds! Here is the boxscore.

I can't believe you are all forgetting the 1914 game against Mizzou where ole Zeb "Crazy Legs" Hatfield recorded the first and only Quadruple Double (until 2007 when a guy from UT Martin had one) with a stat line of 14 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds and 16 steals. Unfortunately back then they didn't keep statistics so only us really smart ISU fans know this :).

In terms of pure point guard, you gotta go with Morris. However, the media will be all over Mason.
Morris is only averaging 0.1 more assists a game than Mason this year. Frank's crushing it this year. 55% from three is ridiculous. There's not one KU fan that three years ago would have predicted this from Frank's senior season. Crazy how hard he has worked to build his game to this.

This was in my original list. :)

Excellent find! Yes, this was an all-timer as well against pretty good competition in Cookie Belcher!

If Frank wasn't so careless with the ball he'd be really good

Yeah, it will keep him out of the conversation for National PoY for sure. Oh, wait. No it wont.

But in all seriousness, hats off to Morris for the minimal TO counts. For a guy that has the ball that much and for being on teams that were so high tempo for several years, it's an incredible achievement. He really is an excellent player who is fun to watch.

Can we pin this thread for a 2017 Clonie nomination?

Tompkins and Hornacek sort of split time at the point but I'd say Gary lined up there more than Jeff did. From a pure passer standpoint, I'd take Hornacek over Morris but Monte is better on the break and at penetrating.

I remember Kane having an amazing performance when he went up against Marcus Smart down in Stillwater.

His stats were 29 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists with 1 steal and only 2 turnovers!

He also passed up a potential game winning shot to Naz, who famously nailed the 3 pointer to break the curse at Gallagher-Iba. Kane is still one of my all time favorite players.

Edit: I guess I should add Kane had 3 overtimes to stuff his stat sheet, still impressive though.
In the video, it looks like Kane wants the ball back from Naz on the buzzer-beater.
