Best Breakfast in Iowa

Anywhere that sells regular food in the AM as well. Breakfast food is overrated.

Somewhat depends on what you are talking about. If it's just basic bacon and eggs, then yeah, it's one of those things that you can only screw up. But, if you delve into pancakes, hashbrowns, waffles, chicken fried steak and even breakfast specialties, there are a lot of places that are better than others. Especially if you like the treat of Cornbeef Hash every once in a while. It's the rare place that makes a good corn beef and adds that to the hash browns and is able to cook it just right. Most places taste like they just opened a can when it comes to CBH.

Don't get me wrong though, there are plenty of places that know how to screw up a basic bacon and egg breakfast.

Subway then too.

Did this place use to be called something else? Like the Berghaus or something to that effect?

The Ronnenburg and the Ox Yoke are the two "originals" left in Amana. They have been in Amana since the late 40's, 50's. The Colony Inn was older, but was bought out by the brewery, who turned it into a Brew tap room with food.

Crouse Cafe in Indianola is old school solid. Just be sure to order off the menu, the buffet is decent for mass quantities but the omelettes and pancakes off the menu are huge and top notch.

Sadly, no bloodies. And no swearing.

The Grove is highly overrated. It's a decent spot, but I think people like it because it has the hole in the wall/diner feel. The food is meh and that's putting it nicely.

I've never understood why the Grove Cafe doesn't get more play around here.

I do like going to the Grove occasionally, but I will agree that it is somewhat overrated, and most of why people like it is because it is an old, cramped, diner type atmosphere. There is better breakfast in Ames, definitely.

Lived in Ames 30 year and have only been there once. That was a couple of years ago. Miss the Cyclone Truck stop grub.

That truck stop was awesome! My dad and I would go on the weekends occasionally. Was not a great interior, but food was good.
