Lived in Ames 30 year and have only been there once. That was a couple of years ago. Miss the Cyclone Truck stop grub.
That was a 2:30am go to back in my younger days. Good breakfasts and HUUUUGE cinnamon rolls.

Agree. I went there once and thought it was below average. We sat at the counter in front of the grill and watched the owner destroy the help repeatedly. I won't give it a second try.The Grove is highly overrated. It's a decent spot, but I think people like it because it has the hole in the wall/diner feel. The food is meh and that's putting it nicely.
Holy ****, two votes for Crouses in Indianola? I love that place. I'm only a block or so away as we speak, and have the sudden urge to go grab some biscuits and gravy.
The Original Pancake House in Ankeny might have them although I’m very meh on the place.Great thread and responses. Since I'm retired and love breakfast this thread has given me a new list to start checking off.
One thing I'm desperately searching for though is SOUR DOUGH PANCAKES. Any help is greatly appreciated. My research so far on the interweb has yielded New York and Talkeetna. There's got to be a hidden gem somewhere closer.
