***Beer Thread***

Had some great beer at El Bait Shop last night. Surly was in town. My list with favorites being at the top

Darkness 4.5 out of 5
Blakkr 4.5 out of 5
Cacao Bender 4.5 out of 5
Pentagram 4 out of 5
Smoke 4 out of 5
Mild 3 out of 5

Also stopped at Hy-Vee on Fluer today and I have to say that they have some of the best selection I've seen in Des Moines. Picked up

Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel
By Udder Means
Mikkeller Beer Geek Breakfast
Dechuets Hop Henge IPA

Any word on when they may start hitting stores in Iowa? Love Furious.

One of the guys from Surly stood up and gave a little speech. What I took out of it is that we shouldn't expect them any time soon. They are going to make appearances like this in Iowa from time to time but no word on distribution. He said they tried expanding to Chicago and Wisconsin and had to pull back from each when they couldn't meet demand. They are back in Chicago now. I think the truth is that they are just putting out feelers in case this new brewing operation can finally meet demand.

I actually saw some Blakkr at Hy-Vee in Ames today.

Sipping on my Amber Ale tonight, enjoying a nice pipe smoke. Have a Mild Brown ale kegged, waiting to go on tap, a Zombie Dust clone fermenting another Amber fermenting, with the Amber on TAp, a basic IPA on tap and a Vienna Lager, from a local brewpub on tap as well. Finally getting that pipeline built back up after this brutal winter.

Anyone who's a homebrewer and enjoys a nice Amber Ale, I can't recommend this one enough. I've altered the recipe a bit (on the last page) but it's a great easy drinking beer.

Got me a fresh import of New Glarus Spotted Cow. Will be sipping on one ripping out carpet in my living room in 45 minutes. Wish they sold outside the state of Wisconsin...

Love spotted cow. My favorite part of our yearly trip to the Dells. I still wonder if the mystique would change a bit though if they ever went regional. Definitely one of the best summer sippers I've ever had though.

I'm ready for some Porch Rocker, but can't find it yet! If you find it in 6 pack in central Iowa, please let me know!

Picked up some Kalona Brewing Sucha Much. My second mini growler. I thought the first was outstanding other than a little flat since they distribute in growlers.

Also have some 8 bit to wash it down.

In other news I had lunch with a guy this week that introduced himself as a beer snob. I said hey me too, what do you drink. His reply "Bud Select"

For home brewers: What do you guys use to filter your beer? Or what tips can you give? My buddy and I just got done with letting our bottles sit out, and it taste good, but there were yeast particles sitting on the bottom. It's a brown ale and isn't suppose to be unfiltered.

Should be out in stores now.

Tonight, i'm going with New Belgium's new seasonal - Summer Helles. easy drinking. It's not a citrus flavored beer or anything of the sort, just a nice golden color and a little yeasty character to it. Nice and crisp.

Got my stock of New Glarus Spotted Cow replenished... just waiting til the clock reads 10:36 to get out of here.

Every time this thread gets bumped, I wonder. Whatever happened to Clones21? Banned or just not posting?
