Thursday my 8 year old son was supposed to go fishing with his grandpa. They left out the front door and a few minutes later he came running in the house screaming in pain. He had gotten stung a couple times when he walked out the front door and one was still stuck in his leg. I'm deathly allergic so grandpa had to take care of the wasp that was still on him. We looked out the front door and there was a decent size swarm of them buzzing around. My husband emptied two cans of wasp spray and killed a bunch but we were still seeing quite a few. Since we live in town, that limits the creativity of getting rid of them so we called in a professional (thank goodness we did).
The guy said this is one of the biggest nests he has ever removed. It filled up almost the entire cavity under our front steps. The pest control guy said there were around 1,000 eggs that were probably going to hatch in the next 2-3 days. I couldn't do a video of him removing the nest since I'm super allergic and couldn't get near, but I'll attach a picture of part of the nest he took out.

Interesting...I have had cicada killers in my yard for a number of years, and I've never seen those.
And praise god for thatVelvet ants/cow killers do not occur in Iowa.
Second giant 'murder hornet' escapes after it was captured by scientists in Washington | CNN
Another "murder" hornet that could have led scientists to its nest has evaded experts once more, following a lost signal.www.cnn.com
Asian giant hornets are the world's largest hornet, as they can become up to 2 inches long, according to the WSDA. What makes them so dangerous is that they can destroy a honeybee hive in a matter of hours, killing the bees by decapitating them.
Bees vs. "Murder" Hornets??

In that video, Why they aren’t hitting that thing with 10,000 degree torch is beyond my comprehension.
"You take what life throws you is what I say. You’ve got to make the best out of every bad situation,” he said, before adding of the hornets: “Keep an eye out for them.”

"THEY drew first blood, NOT ME."Scientists also found in the nest the radio tag they had tied, using dental floss, onto the Asian giant hornet that led them to the nest. “It appeared to have been chewed off,” they said on a blog post.
Somewhere in Washington, there's a hornet with a strand of dental floss wrapped around his head Rambo-style plotting his revenge against the humans that killed his family.
Uhm.... they’re not mammals. Maybe aliens, but not mammals.Good Lord. Those heads looking out of the birth canal!!
Bees are aliens. I’m telling you....Honey Bees Use Animal Dung to Fend Off Giant “Murder” Hornets
Honeybees spread animal dung on the entrance of their hives to effectively ward off giant hornets. What's the best way to ward off giant hornets if you're a honeybee? Animal dung, according to a first-ever University of Guelph study. U of G researchers have discovered honeybees in Vietnam collscitechdaily.com
