My .02, I think that Phillip Jr. is a good kid, he has a lot of issues that go way beyond football that is apparent.

I hope that he has some say as to where he goes next. I hope that he picks somewhere far away, so he can develop as a player and a person. I thank him for his efforts while at Iowa State.

Now can we all please get back to focusing on kicking Baylor's *** tonight.

Bingo!

I really hope he winds up in Fresno, or Boise, or even either of the Washingtons. In a big time program with lots of opportunity, and far enough away so that Dad can't drop in on an afternoon's drive and destroy his life.

Bates Sr. wouldn't like my desk. I already took the time to get a piece of white paper and put it over Bates Jr.'s signature on my autographed ISU FB poster. The paper reads - "NO QUITTERS ALLOWED."

This is garbage. Another case of a father costing his son a career. I'm sure he'll use his connections to get him into kNebraska, but only having one year of eligibility?? That's a big risk...

My regret is that if he does transfer to kNebraska, his one year of eligibility will be a year when we play AT Lincoln. I would have loved for him to play one more game at the Jack. Remember what happened when that traitor Haluska played his one game at Hilton?

I actually did think the press release was a little bush league. However I all Chizik said is that he quit the team - that is true. The rest of the release (including the headline) was probably written by Pollard's AD staff. I do agree with you here.

I'm very happy to hear this. I've had the chance to meet Phillip a couple times and I like him. Whatever happens now, I'm hoping he'll finish out the semester and take care of his classwork.

Ahhhhhh. I misinterpreted the two-year rule. For some reason I thought he'd have to sit for two complete years instead of one and just forfeiting a year of eligibility.

If what Jeremy said is correct, then actually he was in a heck of a position. If he has been a model student, athlete, (etc), and was raised to to do what his parents asked of him, his father put him in a position he should never have been put in.

Jeremy posted his father told him to quit the team. Again, if correct, a very bad decision to do what his father asked. However, it does change the designation of quitter a little bit (not totally). In this case the father is the really quitter and the son is caught in the middle.

This is in no way a defense of PB, or a rationalization, just an observation. His dad never should have put him in this position.

It was apparent that Arnaud had separated himself and won the job with superior play. The staff was still making an effort in trying to give Bates some snaps. But Arnaud was clearly No. 1.

Bates' Father was upset with the way things transpired and thought (in some twisted way) that Arnaud's success would have been Phil's had Phil been given more opportunity. Of course there is no guarantee of that.

The PROPER way to do things would have been to finish out the year as the No.2 and then transfer. After all, he wouldn't be losing anything. And the opportunity to play might occur if Arnaud went down to injury. Plus the staff was still planning on Bates getting some snaps. Instead Bates quits in mid-season.

The reason for Bates quitting IMO is selfish and vengeance, plain and simple. Bates, Sr. does not want Chizik and the Cyclones to benefit from having Phil as insurance as our No. 2. If Arnaud gets nicked, Not seriously, and needs to take off a couple snaps then that means that we will have to burn the RS of Jerome Tiller. So by quitting midseason the Bates family is sticking it to Chizik and the Cyclones. Which is pretty petty.

I wish Bates good luck. But leaving abruptly in the manner that he did was a very classless act. And one that shows total disregard and feeling for his Cyclone teammates, especially Tiller.

I've grown tired of this whole Bates thing and I'm done with it. Today I'm focused on one thing only - ISU getting a win at Baylor and setting the tone for the rest of the season.

Besides, next year we'll being seeing Bo for the first time as well as seasoned players like Sed and Darks and hopefully getting our first glimpse of Money and I'll be asking myself "Phillip who?"

Lets face it, Phillip is 18, he's an adult. Sometime you have to stand-up for yourself, be a man and do the right thing. SJ made his decision for Iowa State, PB could and should have done the same and stuck it out the rest of the season.

I don't think it was unprofessional. He could have worded it differently, but he was only stating the truth.

That and I think he was sending a message to the team as well as the fans.
