This may be part of a package deal to land another kid from Gilbert--Jack Hoiberg

I thought you were allowed 3 walk-ons along with 13 scholarship players? We just have been carrying an open walk-on slot on the roster.
I bet he would get good minutes at a lower level MVC school like Drake or Evanston
Greder is much better known for his talents in XC and T&F. The kid has ran sub-16 for 5k and a 4:29 1600m (essentially a 4:31 mile). He's a 3x state medalist in cross country and twice in track with this spring still coming. He does pair his endurance with a personal best of 6' 2" in the high jump, which is traditionally good enough to place top 12 at state in any classification. However, he has never qualified for state, hitting 5'8" at state qualifying. He also pitched for Gilbert with an ERA of 1.21 and had a batting average of 0.345.
Clearly, he is an athlete and having been a 4-sporter he will have a lot of upside to develop rapidly under a single focus. If he has fast hands to go with his endurance, he could apply some relentless scout-team full-court pressure.

Pretty sure jack hoiberg would be a walkon too. Not because he's bad but because fred can afford to pay tuition and it opens up another scholarship. A la Doug McDermott.

If I could guess, Kourtlin is getting a scholly making room for this guys walk on spot.

We don't need to "make room" - you are allowed three walk-ons on the team. Fred has just had two in the past but next year he will have a full three.
That said if we don't fill up all 3 remaining scholarships for next year then he might as well use one on Kourtlin as a one-time thing; it's not like you can bank it.
