Barry Lamar Bonds...

I think Ichiro is on steroids....

I'll post about the Barry Bonds issue. In my opinion, steroids (whether prohibited by MLB or not) are a form of cheating. They are illegal to use in the US. I believe that even if he cheated for a "short while" of his storied career, he is still a cheater. Pete Rose and Joe Jackson only cheated for a short while as well. I believe that putting an asterisk next to his name in the record books is ridiculous. He shouldn't be there. I'm disregarding my opinion that he is a tool, and unbiasedly saying that he should not be allowed in the record books or the HOF. Just my opinion.

His last homer was a rocket. Back to 3 walks per game. Sammy Not Me Sosa is also pumping out the balls. Guess the human growth hormone is working.

I personally think when people say look at him when he was 25 and look at him now is a horse sh## statement. Myself, along with all of my friends, put on a lot of weight between those years and had we been lifting as much as professional athletes do, you wouldn't have been able to tell a difference between us either. Now I'm not saying he didn't do steroids, because he might have, but to say he did just based on physical appearance is poppycock. And yes I used the word poppycock.
ESPN announced yesterday that Barry Bonds shirt size ballooned from 42″ to 52″, his shoe size grew from 10 1/2 to 13, and his hat size went from a 7 1/8 to 7 3/4.
Explain this. :baffled5wh:

If you think Thome has never done steroids than you are the ignorant one, I have heard more than a few stories from former JC teammates of his... Having played minor league baseball and been around this kind of thing I know exactly WHY pitchers take steroids. I also know there are two common types of steroids used in baseball, one for endurance and recovery and another for bulk and strength... The latter takes quite a bit longer to get out of the system... If someone were to take them in say, october-november and build up strength, then taper off, they would be out of the system by the all star break...

There is ALOT more drug use in college than you can imagine...The whole NCAA drug testing is a joke...

If Jim Thome is a roider, then I have lost all faith in the sport. The guy is the classiest guy in baseball.

Actually, I'd say John Smoltz gets that distinction. But Thome's up there.

I know Thome was voted on and won it 3-to-1 in voting in SI, I think. Might've been over Smoltz.

I'm a Sox fan, and I was unsure of the trade for him at first, but for all he does (hell, apparently he's putting all of his neices and nephews through college) if he's a roider, I'm on the outs with the sport. That being said, I seriously doubt he's on them.

I would normally never wish an injury on anyone, but if I was going to, it would be for this guy. I hate that he is going to tarnish the history of the sport I have loved since I was a kid.

Still waiting for an explaination.:rolleyes5cz:

Thanks for responding and defending Thome. I probably would have been a lot more rude, and I didn't want to.

The thing is, if Bonds needed 'roids to get up to Hank Aaron's numbers, what does that say about the players of the past? They reached those super-human records while the rampant drug in the MLB was beer, and everyone was drunk off their @$$ 80% of the time.

I'll believe in Bonds until he is proven guilty, that is the American justice system and I believe in that. If he did take steroids, Major League Baseball only has itself to blame for tarnishing the game by not catching him, pure and simple.

Admittedly there is some evidence to make you believe he has taken it, his trainer gets brought in on steroids supplementing, Barry still has to put it in his mouth, or you never know, you can definitely take something unknowingly, I'm sure we've all been told to try something, not told what it is, or told wrongly what it is, and ended up taking it. Of course, steroids is something that needs to used repeatedly to be effective, but you can continue to use a "cream" for a while thinking it is something else (once again, this is all hypothesis, but I'm trying not to just rip the guy to shreds without urine or blood tests that prove it)

Does that though make it right though if he did take steroids and get caught? Well no, obviously, but if you were Barry Bonds, didn't take steroids, and people continue to ask you if you have take steroids? You'd be sick and tired of being the posterboy for something you don't want to be the posterboy for.

And I have another point. Do you think Alex Rodriguez is on 'roids? You can take a look at Alex's picture when we was back with the Mariners and take a look at him now when he is with the Yankees. You can definitely see he has gotten way bigger. Same thing with Bonds.

He was a speedy #1 base-stealing contact hitter when he came into the league with the Pirates and now he is a slow-as-balls poor moving, all power hitter with the biggest hat size in the major leagues (not joke, he really does...and he didn't when he came in.) GNC doesn't do that to people. Only someone likes Bonds could make me root for A-Rod to demolish his record (I REALLY hope Pujols breaks it someday)...I am disgusted, vomiting sick of hearing about him everyday on Sportscenter and anything ESPN for like the 4th straight season. You'll never see me rooting for this guy.

Barry Bonds is not the real Barry. AN ANDROID HAS TAKEN HIS PLACE. Either that oir he has had a foot transplant.

I keep hearing HGI is untestable and the polayers are using it.

Big Picture, I think Bonds will be irrelevent. A-Rod is at 478 and is 31. Pujols is at 256 at 26 years old. Figure 40 per year and ARod goes to 40 years old. A-Rod is at 838 give or take. Pujols same figure to 40 puts him at 816. Both of these guys could blow anything Bonds does with a few 50 HR years mixed in.
Great site for baseball statistics if you like that kind of thing.

Some great posts.

Clearly, you can't just use the "look at him, he's bigger than he was when he was 18 years old" accusation to prove steroid use. I'm a lot bigger now at 42 than I was at 18 or 20 and I've never used any performance enhancing drugs!!

I also appreciate the recognition by cybsball that if you are going to point the finger at a guy like Bonds, you had better look at a guy like Clemens as well.

Clemens is about a year older and Bond is about the same age as me. I do cardio and strength training and I can personally tell you that your body just cannot recover as well as you age. In fact, I have noticed a significant difference over the last 4 years.

Frankly, I hate to admit it, but I think the rarity in MLB today is the guy who is not on something. There is just too much money being paid for these guys to not try to "keep up with the Jones'".

This whole Barry debate reminds me so much of Lance Armstrong. Some people (the french) believe he took steroids and that he should be banned from cycling. Others like me believe he is clean and is probably in the top 5 greatest athletes of all time. It is all just what side you are on.
