Austin Nichols

This would be a fantastic addition. Assuming he gets released, he'd still be required to sit a year, correct?

I've got to think that playing with Niang and McKay every day and then having basically all the playing time you want the next year has to at least be appealing to him.

Memphis is considered "south", correct?

Heck, it's not all that far from Kentucky, right? Shouldn't this be right in Prohm's wheelhouse? If he is eventually released, Iowa State better at least be in the conversation for this kid or we're not doing our job IMO.

The article linked to on page 1 summarized:
Averaged 13.3 pts/game for an 18-win Memphis teams.
Asked to transfer really late and Memphis is not releasing him due to inability to replace with a high level recruit or transfer.
Is tabbed as a potential conference player of the year next year should he remain at Memphis.
Last season ended for him when he broke his foot.

He'd be welcomed in Hilton and have two additional seasons after sitting next year.

This. It makes sense on every level to go after this kid.

Why do people think every good transfer could wind up in Ames? He was a 5* recruit who was never recruited by ISU or Murray State, and had offers from Duke, Virginia etc. He's going to have options, and those will include schools like Duke, Kentucky and the top tier programs. He's not going to Ames, and people really needn't be this excited over every good transfer, particularly with no reported interest from the player.

I don't think anyone expects him to come here they just expect us to reach out to him. I think he goes to Duke but it's slow with news right now so the idea we are going to chase a transfer is exciting

Created an account just to be a negative *******? Nice. But in all seriousness we have an open scholarship, a wide open front court for 16-17, and a HC & AC with southern connections so why wouldn't it make sense? No one ever said they think he'll come here just that we hope he does & think we should go after him. And not all top tier programs have a scholarship open at this time and/or are very active on the transfer market. Also with how they've denied his transfer request I could see Memphis putting a lot of restrictions on where he can go so that could eliminate many possible schools. Not saying I think he will but it's possible & would make sense. But since "frogger" says he's not going to Ames, why bother I guess?

There's a thread for every transfer all year, and even the 2-3* guys didn't commit this year so a 5* is just wishful thinking. Cue somebody bringing up Royce White, which was 5 years ago and one NBA coach ago.
