Super weird. So basically they have to physically transform their building to accommodate very few fan to essentially artificially produce a louder venue?I kinda think it looks weird in the photo with the panels down.

Moody Center (Texas) is open for business.
10,000 for basketball
15,000 for concerts, due to retractable ceiling panels that will cover the upper deck for hoops but will be removed for other events
The panel frames are visible in this picture, with seating behind them.

San Diego's Viejas Arena hosted first weekend games in 2018, 2022 and will in 2026. It seats 12,414 for basketball.Imagine being the University of Effing Texas, with massive numbers of alums, money, and alums with money, and needing panels to paper over your inability to sell more than 10,000 tickets to your basketball arena.
And isn't 15,000 seats for a metro that size kind of small? They can't even bid for the NCAA tournament, can they?
And I'm not anti-McConaughey by means, but who the hell cares about his involvement? Their fixation with him is getting weirder than Hy-Vee and Mark Wahlberg.
Baylor still won't fill a 7000 seat arena

Matty should be in those meetings. I thought he was an assistant coach?Imagine being the University of Effing Texas, with massive numbers of alums, money, and alums with money, and needing panels to paper over your inability to sell more than 10,000 tickets to your basketball arena.

No kidding? Did they change the requirements? I thought Des Moines barely made the cut, and that was with 16K+.
And there have been a lot more smaller venues since then. I edited my post above...![]()
Viejas Arena to host NCAA men’s basketball in 2014
The NCAA revealed the host sites for its 2014 men’s basketball tournament Monday, and listed among them is a venue that March Madness supposedly had outgrown:Viejas Arena. Then known as Cox Arena, it hosted tournament games in 2001 and…www.sandiegouniontribune.com
From a 2012 story about SDSU hosting in 2014:
Then known as Cox Arena, it hosted tournament games in 2001 and 2006 to soldout crowds and rave reviews, only for the NCAA to mandate a minimum of 12,000 “sellable” seats for future venues. Viejas Arena has a capacity of 12,414 for San Diego State basketball games, but seats “killed” for media, bands, TV and other reasons during the NCAA Tournament lowered it to about 11,500. Not enough.
What changed?
Viejas didn’t for the NCAA; the NCAA did for Viejas.
Last spring the NCAA quietly lowered its minimum “sellable” capacity for the tournament’s opening weekend to 10,000, and then asked to meet with SDSU athletic director Jim Sterk when the Aztecs were in Columbus, Ohio, for their opening NCAA Tournament game against North Carolina State.
“They told us that they were changing the requirement so we could qualify,” Sterk said. “They needed more quality West Coast sites, and they encouraged us to bid on it. So it’s not a huge surprise that we got it.”
Well the guy that shills for ******* Lincoln helped design it so......Looks Sterile. and **** Texas.
Some video of the inside of the Moody Center:
Des Moines' biggest obstacle was hotels. You've got to have 8 full service with adequate banquet space. No kidding? Did they change the requirements? I thought Des Moines barely made the cut, and that was with 16K+.

I don't believe this has been posted yet:
Houston has a lot of potential in the Big 12. Tons of money in that region and can take some eyeballs from A&M now that they're "Power 5". In hindsight, they probably should have been in over Baylor originally.
