Conversations I've heard in my industry...

"Aren't you worried?"
"About what?"
"That AI is going to replace copywriters and designers and photographers in advertising and marketing?"
"No."
"You don't think agencies are going to start using AI for their creative?"
"No."
"Why not? It'll save them so much money. Their margins would be huge."
"Because the minute their clients hear they have AI doing their creative, they'll be out of business.

I think your only mistake is thinking that companies will care if it does it worse. They won’t care as long as they can cut headcount enough to make up for it. EnSHITification baby.

I have only used it conversationally about nerdy stuff I want to research with lower effort. So far its been pretty underwhelming.

I’m looking for a better way to take notes during conference calls. For those who use Copilot for meeting recaps/notes, if you have a call over MS Teams do you have to record the meeting first or can it recap without recording enabled?

I use it to reply to posts on Cyclone Fanatic.

It is an unbelievable tool to make my mortal, limited minded user look a little smarter. Basically, I have to dumb-down my extraordinary insights for all you Cyclone Fans.

You don't need to record it. You need to have transcription enabled, which might need a separate license, in addition to Copilot, depending on your setup. Copilot interacts with the transcription so recording is not necessary

Had some medical issues and corresponding tests.

AI was able to read the results and tell me what each test was for and how I scored

It was also able to explain the diagnosis pretty darn well too.

Otherwise it's just stuff like this....

Yeah but the second a client who's been paying their agency gobs of $$$ for creative hears said agency is using AI to come up with said creative, said client will think... "Hell WE can punch a bunch of prompts into ChatGPT, why are we paying you to do that?"

I've used ChatGPT a few times. Once to write up a press release. I had to re-write most of it, but since I had no idea what a press release should look look like it gave me a good starting point. Also used it for finding some research papers I could source. It gave me a bunch of stuff that I don't think even existed, but I did manage to find a couple of things I could use out of it.

I've heard it can code and I've thought about trying to use it to code some python scripts to build tools in ArcGIS but haven't tried yet. Anyone use it for this at all?

Also haven't seen the real reason:

To make me artificially intelligent
If you completely rely on it without a basic understanding of what you're asking it, you may end up looking stupid. AI is not fool proof and will on occasion make either invalid assumptions or cite incorrect data. Much of what I ask of AI is organizing or expanding on what I already know, and doing it much faster than I could otherwise. It's a support tool not a replacement for knowledge.

We have GitHub Copilot integrated into our ide and repository. It is better at coding than ChatGPT, but definitely isn’t perfect.

So you are asking how to put AI into practice?

I agree. No doubt it could/will be completely trans-formative but right now most AI tools are just really highly organized search engine results.

Listened to this today and I was blown away.

I've used copilot for creating various python/vba scripts for doing stuff in excel/office applications quite a bit. Generally works fairly well to get a good start, but have had several instances of it not following correct syntax etc and have to have several followup prompts to work around it.

Never used it. I love the idea of using it to create meeting minutes though because I am HORRIBLE about doing so.

Funny you mention they because I was about to post this anyway...

We had a big "hey, you can use Copilot for being minutes, it's gonna be awesome, so do it, do it now!" rollout a few months ago. Today, a key message from the executive team came out advising us that while AI can be a good tool to assist in taking minutes, it is critical for you to review them before publishing.

Which sounds to me like what I've been doing, which is taking notes during the meeting.

I have used it. Probably in a different way than most. I've used copilot at work and used a few chatgpt prompts. The usual stuff.

But I've also got ollama and openwebui running on a machine at home. I use it to interpret a series of images from my doorbell camera to get a text description (frigate). I might eventually use it for locally hosting something similar to an Amazon Echo / Google home device (home assistant). That tech is evolving fast though.

I've also used it to make up a bedtime story for my kids (that's honestly probably been it's best use).

There are without a doubt things it will be useful for, but at this point it's another tool in the toolbox.

It can absolutely be a useful tool to get something started, 100%. What drives me nuts is when people punch in a bunch of prompts to ChatGPT, has it kick out a completed and finished article/blog, and said person posts it with their name on it.

NO. You did not write that.
