Nothing wrong with mebounds. Seems like Moses Malone and Karl Malone were praised for their mebounds. Back then it was considered an effort or hustle play.

I realize you aren't being overtly negative about Reece's "mebounds". But I've had a few conversations with Clark fans whose main point why Reece is a bad player is her % of baskets made on getting her own offensive rebound.
Not all mebounds are created equal - get one off of a midrange jumper, hook shot, or god forbid your missed free throw - impressive. Rebounds off of your missed layups that come right back down where you shot them just under the shadow of the basket and into your waiting hands aren't at all impressive.

Impressive or not, a primary goal of hoops is to end as many possessions as possible with a basket. Offensive rebounds help attain that goal.

Not the point of my post.

It's the focus of some Clark fans that offensive rebounds are a negative. I'd never heard the term me-bounds before criticism of Angel Reese. It's her haters coming up with a negative description to describe a positive attribute to her game.

It would be like calling every 25 ft three point shot by Clark as a me-3.
It's stuff like this that has sparked the "mebound" thing...

Those 5 rebounds accounted for nearly half of her boards in that game.

Of course there's nothing wrong with offensive rebounds. I think you're missing the point. It's about when she's within a foot of the basket and clanks multiple bunnies and/or gets blocked multiple times and comes back down with the ball.

If you think that's something to be impressed by, I'll just go ahead and disagree.

I'm impressed if it helps the possession end in a basket for her team. A better option than a missed shot and opponent gets the board.

This is an example of "fans" making a negative out of a positive because of some fans dislike Reese so much.

I think it's more an example of "fans" calling out an inflated rebounding stat due largely to a historically low FG% within a few feet of the rim. I'd be more impressed if she just made the layup, lol.

Brash, outspoken, couldn't shoot, not liked by people for "reasons"... people absolutely tuned in to see what Rodman would do on the court.
Honestly don’t think I’ve seen her play, but after watching that hilarious Mebound video, I checked, and Rodman averaged 52% from the field for his career. Seems he at least did a better job of making the point-blank ones.

I got bad news for you: the Sky's offense is nearly dead last in PPG, while being top 5 in rebounding and #1 in offensive rebounding.

Those mebounds are objectively not leading to more points, according to the stat sheet. Plenty of extra possessions, not plenty of points scored.

Reese can catch a ball. She can't shoot or pass a ball, apparently. Her shooting is AWFUL.

Her game is kind of like a player who dominated when young by being much bigger than everyone else but is now about average-sized at best.

He also averaged just under 5 offensive rebounds on just over 5 shots per game and 2/3 of his rebounds were defensive.

To be honest, it has always felt like casual racism to me in this context, or maybe even sexism, but could also be a form of self-validation...people sometimes go out of their way to find fault with others who are clearly superior to them in some field. Lots of examples of it in TV and movies...

I'll second this. If CC and Reese were both white (or not) this "feud" would be a big nothing burger.

Only because he was with Jordan and Pippen.

The main reasons anyone would have tuned in to watch him were becuase of his theatrics, to see what color his hair would be that day, and to see if he'd kick a cameraman that game.
Jordan and Pippen are why I was aware of him. His play is why I came back.

I’d watch Jordan and Pippen and think “there’s no way I can ever be that kind of a player”, and then I’d see Rodman and think “you know, I could maybe do THAT.” My was my favorite player by a mile growing up.
