by the apparent free-flow of information between the various sites? I frequent all 3 known Cyclone sites but am curious how others feel about "stealing" info from the one premium site and posting it elsewhere. I realize the info will flow into the public domain in a matter of days, but is it really okay to do it until that happens?

I'm an atheist but I have a strong moral background that looks at this sort of thing as unchristian.

The fact that I have sat here and read and re-read this statement 15+ times and still have no idea where it is going really has me even more confused than when I began. (Also it made me post this super long sentance.)

The information being shared is nothing that you have to subscribe to obtain from the website.

Anyone can go to CR.com and click on the Football commits link and see who all is commited. If they want to post it, why should we care about sharing it.

I get a ton of recruiting info there. All I am doing is reading the free information provided. There is nothing wrong with sharing that information.

"Am I the only one troubled..."
I wont say youre the only one but you are definately troubled if you post a comment like that.

People just use info from the free sections. It is good advertising for the two paid sites as they are in competition and they both provide different info. I am not aware that premium info is being dumped here directly from the paid sites. You can easily look at recruiting, databases, some lead stories, some partial Big Story paragraphs, free message board threads, google names, talk to sports friends, send emails around to friends, listen to sports shows give away hints and then assemble some good info. That is similar to how the federal governent and the FBI find their men - just put all the pieces together. I do not think this info has been stolen unless someone can give us specific examples. And then moderators would remove the info anyway. The only way the premium sites will find new people is through people who are interested in Clone sports and this site has lots of those potential customers.

No, I agree completely, SpokaneCY. We try and get in and clean up premium info that is posted when we see it. Unfortunately, we are hampered by the fact that there really is no way to verify if someone has a source or not. As a fellow moderator pointed out once, there are how many people who work in the athletic department? There are then how many other people who are directly related to them? Someone tells their wife, who tells her friend, who tells someone else... It's kind of the six degrees of separation thing.

Please note, however... We REALLY do not encourage, desire, or allow ganking premium info from the other sites. As the forum rules state, this is directly prohibited. Whatever your opinions of the other sites or their administrators may be, please respect the rules here.

I dunno - theres a few names being

mentioned here that are not part of any free content over there. Maybe its just me and my idealistic sense of fairness. Or maybe the younger generation just doesn't like to work for anything anymore.

As long as nothing is copy-righted I don't see how anything could be unethical or un -Christian like about it. Where do you think the info comes from in the first place? In my mind I think it is a sham for a third party to create an atmosphere of exclusivity and then turn around and charge for info that they themselves have obtained for free via contacts – Contacts that, for the most part, work for a PUBLIC University. So no, I don't lose any sleep over it.

Cheese and rice, how did I miss this. :baffled5wh: Classic man. :laugh8kb:

Pardon for the clarification but if you are an atheist. By definition isn't everything un-Christian for you.

Let's see, posting on a free website any info is bad or unethical because the other two paid premium sites may or may not have obtained the info originally? Well, this is 2007 and blogging and email and cable TV has made the domain of info readily available to sports addicts.

Yes, it may be unchristianlike to talk about sports when it is not a paid premium message board to some. But these people are in the vast minority. I think if you are an atheist, you may want to use the word ethical instead of unchristianlkike (word?). Is that you, Paul?

Jeremy has stated on numerous occasions that nobody should post information that he or she has obtained from a premium site's confidential section. And thus CycloneFanatic does not support this. I am not a member of any premium site on the web... but I will make an educated guess that when purchasing a membership it states in your contract not to share this information with the public and discusses the rules on that. Thus the responsibility falls on the member of the premium site. There is no way of directly enforcing this rule on those people by CycloneFantic anyhow as there is no way the moderating team can have memberships to every single premium site on the web and know everything that is discussed on those millions of websites. However, as I mentioned, CycloneFanatic asks that users do not do this.

Also, just because information is on a premium site, does not mean a person who knows that information obtained it from that site. In regards to Cyclone Athletics in particular, many member of CycloneFanatic are students and friends of players, and many members have connections throughout the community. Also, fans of Iowa State are smart and able to make deductions based off of publicly displayed pictures and publicly displayed descriptions of premium information on the free portions of premium sites.

Again, I will re-emphasize what Jeremy has stated many times. CycloneFanatic.com does not support members of premium sites posting information that they obtained only from the premium portion of those premium sites. If you are sharing this information, please do not continue in this manner.

But I will also state, it is often unfair to people who have other sources of obtaining new information to be accused on a regular basis of stealing information. If you suspect someone is stealing information, please PM the user and ask in a kind manner how they are obtaining their information and if they are posting premium info, to please remove it. You may find they are not doing anything wrong. If you find they are and are not cooperating, please report the post and the moderating team will deal with the situation.

Thank you,
The CycloneFanatic Moderating Team

For the record, has posting premium info to this website even occurred say in the last three weeks? I am still waiting for that Big Story last fall from Jeremy to be posted. My point is with 3-4k viewers and contributors who are interested in Cy sports, you will see some good stuff.

I am guessing that SpokaneCy is a member of the far left Democratic wing...............

And why is the younger generation being implied of being the only ones???

Mostly because we'd get away with it if it weren't for you darn kids.
-oh scooby

I think the herb in the NW has gotten stronger. That can be the only explaination for this thread.

There have been several snowstorms lately. Some homes have been isolated and withoutpower for awhile.

I think what you mean is that it's immoral to steal information, but what you are saying is that you equate morals to Christianity and separate them from atheism.

It muddles your point. Glad I could help.
