Altman to Arkansas

No way this happens. He is an Oregon Alum. In his 9 or 10 years in Oregon he has totally turned a horrible program around...they have been to the Elite 8 twice in the last few years. He has a far better gig in Eugene!

Clark Kent is Superman.

Re: Another candidate says "no thank you"

Dana Altman to Arkansas.

This is hilarious. This morning one of the guys here in the office said he got a call from one of the sports writers from the Democratic Gazette telling him that Calipari was a done deal...take it to the bank.

hmmmm....has a familiar ring to it. :wink0st:

Probably more like "mainly because of the money". :wink0st:
That is probably dead on the money, no pun intended. I can't believe I didn't figure the money in that. Oh well, time for a payday I guess.

Supposedly some of the big money behind Oregon (Nike?) are not fans of Kent at all and they won't pony up for much-needed new facilities until he is gone but he keeps winning enough that they can't rid of him. It's another situation where he might just say "screw it" and leave for some place where he'll be more appreciated.

Yeah, Phil Knight (NIKE) is withholding money for new practice facilities because of his dislike of Kent. Of course, you can't fire a guy after an Elite 8 season, but they would like for him to explore other opportunities.

If they can get rid of Ernie, then they will throw a boatload of money at Mark Few, who is an alum of the University of Oregon.

Re: Atman to Arkansas announced today

This was a complete shock, I thought if anything he was not going to go anywhere. Why would he? He was loved in Omaha. This seems kind of an odd move for both parties.

Re: Atman to Arkansas announced today

Didn't see that coming.

You ought to have seen the press conference down here....it was a real snoozer. :dull8ay: I got a chuckle when they started to call the Hogs and Altman had that embarrassed look on his face like "what the hell am I doing?!?!". His wife just sat at the table fairly motionless with a frozen grin of horror on her face. At one point he described himself as a boring coach, not flashy and let me tell you that is NOT what rabid Hog fans want to hear.

I really don't know a whole lot about Altman but a first glance, I personally think they fired Stan Heath and hired another "Stan Heath". He may have been successful with Creighton but I really question if he can pull of the same success at Arkansas.

I can't wait to hear some of the feedback now that the hiring is complete. I really think UA could have done better. Broyles indicated before the search that he was going for the 'grand slam' coach....I think he ended up with a sacrifice bunt instead. Time will tell
