Allen at Point, Scotty back to the 2

I am all for Scott back at the 2. He can be valuable there if he moves on offense. This is not the offense we had last year where he can camp out in the corner and wait for DG to make somthing drawing his defender to help. There is not that guy this year unless you count a dump in to white at the post. Scott will need to have a motor working and moving the whole time on offense to create some movement. This will not only free him up but free up others and create passing lanes to the bigs.

Needless to say I am excited I think Scott is a smart player and provide some spunk like McGee does on offense. He needs less minutes and more high mortor minutes. Clones are deep at guard position and need to use it better.

I think Bubu is perfect for a backup to Allen, high energy, good D and showing a little offense this year too.

I think this decision shows a lot of maturity and patience on Fred's part. He avoided the knee-jerk reaction to fan sentiment and gave it more time to work out. It didn't, and he made a decision that I think most of us would agree with. I also think it shows he was willing to experiment during the non-conference season, even if it meant taking some lumps.

I was also somewhat encouraged by Peterson's comments in the chat the other day. He basically said look, not ONE person from ISU oversold this team. That was all the fans and media that did that. The ISU coaches always knew this was going to be a difficult transition and never stated anything different from that. From that perspective it says to me Fred knew exactly what he was getting into and knows where we're going from here.

I hope we look back on this move and say it was when our team started turning the corner.

I think the ball needs to go down to White on the block every possession...especially when Percy is in there...they looked like they'd been playing together for years on Tuesday. Could've been a result of the defense we were playing against though.

Glad FH is willing to make changes when something doesn't work unlike McDermott.

I like it when coaches are willing to admit they were wrong. I think this is a good trait to have. No one is perfect, but some people will never admit they were wrong, regardless of the circumstances or even when things change.

Hopefully this is the answer to some of our issues. White and Percy together appear that they will give teams problems and both will get better as the season rolls on.

Lastly, now maybe we'll see Scotty crank up his performance, now that he's in a more natural spot.

classic reporting by the register. chris allen has a cut over his eye, someone on the team was tested for a concussion, and the videos were about who's playing PG. thanks randy!

Did you not watch the last game or listen to what Allen said? The cut is from the Prairie View game where Chris headbutted a guy from their team, and that is who was tested for concussion symptoms, not anyone on our team.

Love this move. I think it forces Chris to be more selective, which he hasn't been in the losses this year. And I also think Scotty fits the offense much better by getting himself open without the ball.

Agree. He is good enough where he is going to demand help a lot of the time and is a good enough passer to find open shooters.

As long as he doesn't just dribble down and start launching shots from anywhere. His shot selection is far from selective.

As much as anything, I hope this helps Scottie and gets him back into the flow. He's deadly in the right role.

Both of these. Allen did well against PVA&M because he had a much better shot selection. He took open shots to boost his confidence and continued making them. Scotty just didn't fit the point guard role, but as we have seen, he is extremely effective in the right position. Allen should do well as a PG as long as he looks for the pass before a crazy shot.

i didn't catch that part - thanks.

Allen seems far and away the best guy to run the point for this team.

Throw in the fact that he was woefully ineffective at the 2 (I don't know if I've seen worse shot selection over the course of several games), and I think this could change a lot of things going forward for this team.

good moves. Keep tweeking Hoiberg. The talent is there. Find what works. "Run it up Herman, leave no doubt"

I've been able to see only a few games, but vs. U-M, Allen was forcing the **** out of it .. interesting to note, when ISU slapped on the desperation pressure, he took the same shots, but sank them.

I like this move. I think Bubu has a PG upside (works hard on defense, isn't afraid to penetrate (finishing is iffy, but if he draws fouls, he has a nice stroke at the line). I think Allen & Bubu are the best options at point. Scotty & McGee can fill the role in spurts.

There's enough potential at 7 or 8 deep ... can only start 5. But all can get plenty of minutes.

I could see adaptable starting lineups

PG Allen
SG Babb
SF Ejim
C White
PF Gibson
6-7-8: Scotty, McGee, Bubu, Booker

PG Allen
SG1 Babb
SG2 Scotty
C White
PF Gibson
6-7-8: Ejim, McGee, Bubu, Booker

I think Lineup 1 is more traditional, position-wise. Probably better as far as shooting w/ Scotty in a 3-guard than Melvin, if he's struggling. But why not bulk up the frontcourt? Maybe that would put him in a more natural position.

This is the biggest problem. Taking the same shots all game as when you are down 20 with 5 minutes left.

I said Allen would be the starting PG when it was announced he would be attending ISU. I am glad that Fred has finally realized Chris can be a very good PG. With this decision, I see the team improving drastically now that there is no indecisiveness when bringing the ball up the court.

I still don't think this is the solution. We have two guys that I've seen the ability to play pg, Bubu and McGee.

So you would rather start a 3 point sharp shooter, like we were doing with scotty, or a walk on instead of someone who has proven that he can handle the point?

True.

I think the "clutch" factor came into play ... I wasn't sure what to make of it. Because of all them were terrible shots — but in the scheme of the final few minutes, which was a flurry, it showed he wasn't afraid of launching those (what's to lose at that point?) -- other times it just seemed like wasted possessions.
