All "Gripes" with Greg McDermott

re: All "Gripes" with Greg McDermott

The Assoc. AD claimed in an email that the Jiri ordeal resulted in a loss of a scholarship.

Does anyone have a copy of this alleged e-mail? Several people have mentioned it - I'd like to see what it says, exactly.

Re: Another coach gone and McD still here

Gary Thompson has done more for our program EVER than anyone who posts one here. There is no good reason to call him "stupid".

Re: Another coach gone and McD still here

I've lost faith in McDermott's ability to lead a program as well. So have all the transfers and any sort of recruit that is worth anything.

re: All "Gripes" with Greg McDermott

Who is entitled to make the decision about whether to spread out the scholarship losses or take them all in year one, the coach or the AD? If it's the athletics director, then JP should not have "given" McD anything.

I don't expect anyone to have an answer to this question (I think both sides have good arguments), but it's another layer in the analysis of this contract.

Again, it's been pretty well established that they took the loss of scholarship hit in the first year instead of spreading it out over two years. There was even a link to an espn.com article in the other thread which corroborated as much.

By year two ISU had its full allottment of scholarships.

Re: Another coach gone and McD still here

do we really need one of these threads EVERY ******* TIME a coach is fired?

Here's the link to the article and some key quotes, read them carefully:

Seton Hall fires hoops coach Bobby Gonzalez - College Basketball - Rivals.com

The article makes clear that he was not fired for his record, but rather that he and the team were not behaving up to the ethical standards that were set forth. NO COMPLAINT like that has been made about McDermott.

Oh please. Just because that's what they "announce" as the reason doesn't make it so. There was the Mitchell situation with Gonzalez, but if you think he would have been fired had Seton Hall had a great year, I've got a bridge in Ankeny to sell you. Attendance was not good either.

re: All "Gripes" with Greg McDermott

whatever situation caused Brian friggin Peterson to get the amount of playing time he did was a huge problem.

It's completely justified to think McDermott should be fired based on his record, but he IS NOT going to be, so ******** about it constantly and comparing it to every single other coach out there is completely useless and pointless.

Well, I can make a case that McDermott should be fired regardless of his record this year. Player's leaving due to him, a player walking out on his teammates and coaches, a player that was supposed to return and didn't. McD saying Colvin was suspended until a certain date and then going back on his word. Saying he couldn't trust Dendy and playing him after only one game. So don't bring that week **** in here. McDermott has obviously lost control of the team and with so many defections each year and the way he handled Colvin and Dendy situation's. These things certainly portray our program in a bad light.

No we don't.

I've lost most of my faith as well. But the decision has been made. Mac WILL be on the bench next fall. People need to come to grips with it.

maybe 60 years ago but what does he do now? it is not like he is a famous alum that can help bring in recruits. It is not like we can bring a recruit in here and then bring in Thompson to talk to him. they would say who the hell is this old guy.

Can you tell me what was said during the conversation between Mac and Dendy?

That's true...

re: All "Gripes" with Greg McDermott

My guess is McD could have decided to spread the three schollies over three years which would trigger a three year extension.

Probably what happened was he walked into JP's office and said that he is entitled to three years but he would rather take the losses all at once (or at least over two years). JP said that was fine as there is no reason to handicap the program just for McD to trigger the three year extension. Thus, McD and JP probably have an unwritten mutual understanding that he is entitled to three extra years even though the terms of the contact might say differently. This understanding should have been made explicit in a new contract that clarified the situation but for whatever reason it hasn't been.

just my guess.

Those are my thoughts, exactly

re: All "Gripes" with Greg McDermott

Where? I have found nothing to indicate that. Not saying we didn't, but I can find no source that says we had anything happen but a 6 game suspension, and there are usually news articles about that sort of thing.

Sorry guys but another site confirmed it through the athletic office.

I'll guess more money has fallen out of his pockets inside the Jake in the past month, than will ever be donated by you.

A little respect is in order. The man IS Iowa State basketball.

Re: Another coach gone and McD still here

He said to the media that he couldn't trust Dendy

I know what he said to the media...I asked if you had any knowledge of conversation between Dendy and Mac, if you don't that's fine, just curious.

Taz, that makes no sense. Please read my reply to that post. If they were taken all at once he's not entitled to three years, he's only entitled to one. The contract is about the NUMBER OF YEARS McDermott is without scholarships.

That's not my question. My question is who had the authority to decide they were going to do that - JP or McD?

You have no clue. Before your posts, I had some questions, but the more you post, it leaves no doubt. Maybe you should research a little bit and show a little respect.
