I kinda agree. It's not just fans. It's the media ecosystem that surrounds recruiting. It's always been a reality show for diehard fans, but now it almost overshadows the games in some circles. Maybe because it's year round? I can't stand listening to the national guys talk down to any program that isn't in the top 10 of the recruiting rankings. There is so much more to college football for many of us. But to some of these pundits, they act like we should just close up shop if we aren't chasing 5-stars.
They will get someone that will be able to be competitive in recruiting CA against Lincoln Riley.
Of all the jobs that have been out there for Campbell this one is one that I could actually see him interested in. That is a solid opportunity.
There's zero chance they get their money's worth out of this contract.

Either that, or Oregon needs to acknowledge the football job is a revolving 4-to-6-year endeavor and chase Baylor’s Dave Aranda or Iowa State’s Matt Campbell with a blank check and the kind of support they might not currently have.
The ACC is wide open now. Miami has one of the densest recruiting ground in the country. The other two P5 schools in FL are down.
Clemson was down this year and just lost their generational DC. UNC grossly underperformed with the best QB they’ve had in years. Wake Forest was a paper tiger. Virginia Tech and UVA are both replacing coaches. FSU hasn’t hit its stride yet in a few years with Norvell. NC State has looked decent the past few years, but they’re not at CFP level. Pitt looked good this year, but I don’t follow them close enough to know how sustainable that is once Pickett leaves.

That would be reaching deep into the way-back machine for a guy that really only sustained success at Oregon. He had the magic touch up there...does he still have it? Doesn't seem like it. He wouldn't be a bad hire but not sure he is the best hire they could make!
Oregon, who is a near blue blood, just lost two coaches in 5 years to FL schools because those coachers were FL guys. I think that says a lot about how important fit is in hiring coaches. Pollard learned that lesson with Chizik.
From that article...this stat surprised me:
Helfrich’s record at Oregon: 37-16.
Cristobal’s record at Oregon: 35-13.
If it’s not Ohio State or Notre Dame, I’m not worried.
I don't disagree on that. But in the era of NIL and an arms race in college football, it's kind of nice to have a guy like Phil Knight in your back pocket.
