All FB coaching rumors and speculation

Looking like Diaz is gone at Miami ...looking more and more like Oregon is going to be looking for a coach soon.

I am so sick of this coaching cycle. Every time we dodge a bullet, another ******* school with a gun comes around.

Well, a shuffling of blue blood school’s coaches like this year doesn’t happen every year. Most of their new hires will get at least 2-3 years (maybe not Texas).

If LSU can fire a guy two seasons after winning a title, I think most blue blood jobs get two years. Plus, the money is getting out of hand, there's upheaval in the CFB structure, we're starting to pay players, etc. I think this is the new normal until there is some form of organization and leadership that has the best interest of the sport in mind, not the best interest of the conference/school. Until then, it will be all the big money schools trying to out-do the other schools. It's the SEC mindset, but now it's national.

As a Miami fan they should have threw that kind of money at Kiffin.

I am surprised Kiffin stayed put considering the jobs that were open this cycle! Maybe he is still in that "prove you deserve another big chance" phase to some but to me...I would hire him in a second! Kiffin in south Florida would have been a fun watch!

Exactly. I think his offense would be perfect for Miami and the athletes they can get.

Ok?? I said 2-3 years. I think that is accurate and you seem to agree.

He may have learned from USC that the big time job isn't for him. Might just be happy at Ole Miss.

Now I agree here that you hit the major impact of college sports, and that is commercial development in some communities - and Ames and Manhattan would be good examples, where the university is a massive part of the town, and sporting events are the biggest draw for visitors.

Enrollment - like I said, I think it does have some impact, but enrollment numbers vs. football success suggests at most it's moderate and localized, but most likely just a fact that college football spending (or "investment") shot up during a time of increased enrollment overall. You just can't see broad correlations across the country to make a case that football success has a significant impact on enrollment.

So I would say that football success actually has limited impact on the university, but can have a big impact in the city in which the university is located, particularly in the prototypical "college towns" like Ames, Manhattan etc.
If the expectation or contention is a great year leads to increased enrollment the following year or couple years, that would be tough- most institutions would slow down the increase due to infrastructure and staffing limitations. Did they not use applicants? Imo just like in increasing ticket sales and fan support, the impact of success is somewhat generational or delayed.

Are there studies vs having major college football vs not? The investment needed to be a major program is going up.

It is hard to study the impact of major college athletics- nearly every large, flagship state university has major college football, AND they funded and invested in college football last century when emerging as just that.

Imo there is also somewhat an existential threat from looming of digital education/ ed tech disruptions, and major college athletics will be a source of product differentiation as on-campus schools become more of a luxury expenses.

Its decending into madness.

Here are some satisfaction levels from the Big 12

Texas - Miserable - [honeymoon phase already over!]
West Virginia - Satisfied tilting toward miserable
Kansas State - Satisfied tilting toward miserable
Iowa State - Satisfied tilting toward miserable

I interpreted what you said as we can somehow take a deep breath after this year since there's been so much movement at blue bloods this year. My thought is we are only going to see more of this and the money being thrown around and willingness of coaches to leave otherwise more historically stable positions is only going to accelerate this carousel we're on. I think this year is the new normal.

Why is ISU "Satisfied tilting toward miserable"? I don't see that at all except for a few morons

Really? Are you talking about the fan base? Count me out of the norm...if that is the norm? This is the greatest era of Iowa State football! How could we be tilting toward miserable?

Already seeing plenty of Twitter takes about Campbell being an Oregon candidate.

I'm far from miserable. I'm very satisfied with Campbell and hope he stays for awhile

If you think we’re tilting towards miserable you are clueless. We are satisfied and relieved at this point. Season wasn’t as planned but not bad.
