You can listen for yourself and interpret it as you will because everyone else will.

When I read the comments that Pollard said about USC, or 7-5 elsewhere, or money chasing, etc. it was reassuring. But then the part where he says "if something comes up that is the right fit for the right reason".... "if that is something he wants to do, then we should be ecstatic for Campbell because he's delivered and then some for Iowa State". Add that to the silence by our head coach at this time. Its exactly like when Fred to the Bulls was in limbo. I really believe (with sadness) that CMC is gone. Not being dramatic, just my honest opinion.(my only hope is ND donors and players are so in love with Freeman that they want to promote him or they like Fickell first). I realize we don't know where CMC is at on 'their list'.
Just my gut feeling he's gone.

I mean, CW said himself he thought there was something to the USC rumors. And Notre Dame is one of the dream jobs everyone ties Campbell to. So all the speculation seems pretty justified.

True. It can happen. But it's been three years of this, obviously national sports media doesn't know what they think they know when it comes to Campbell so far.

I think that’s right. But I also think this is the job.

The donors will have to be convinced between their bowl beat down of us and a highly rated team going 7-5

I doubt any smart AD will be deterred by a 7-5 vs. 9-3 season.
When you are a ND and have your pick, a coach’s appeal slides when the preseason top-10 team finishes 7-5. In this case, the same coach who’s team didn’t show up against ND.

Does it eliminate them? No, and I don’t think that’s been claimed, but how they’re viewed with respect to other candidates is impacted.

There’s nothing for sure in sports.

CMC could have a losing season next year, heacock then retires, and CMC never again has success.

The uncertainty is what makes sports great.
not that long ago, we worried about Paul Rhoads getting lured away, we see how that turned out. McCarney before that, which didn't exactly work out for him. if we arent worried about our coach getting hired away, we prob stink. I def dont recall any talk of Walden LOL

Campbell has done much better and I think its more sustainable but to your point, you never really do know. 10 mill+ is a another level and there really is only a handful of schools like ND. he fits perfectly there if thats what he wants.

Schools like Iowa State we will still be able to get a great coach for less than 5 mill and have great facilities to compete at a high level for years to come. the big 12 is winnable any given year absent OU and Texas and as long as the big 12 maintains a seat at the table for playoffs, - it will be easier to build a consistent winner here than go dog eat dog in the super league...

I look for more coaches to look at the Big 12/PAC 12 to give themselves a better chance of longer term success. these schools are going to be about development, cycles of winning - much like Iowa has done over the years and with the new transfer rules, they can take high level players out of the super league schools who arent willing to wait their turns or bring players up from lesser schools that prove to be better than their recruitment. There will be more parity than ever before with all the transfers, similar to Mens Basketball

Coach O also went 5-5 last year and 6-6 this year. Those aren’t records Brian Kelly produces.
Maybe.

Brian Kelly won’t be playing teams called Navy, Virginia, Boston College, Florida State, and Technical schools of Virginia and Georgia.
