I’m just trying to understand why every ISU fan thinks their fanbase is somehow special. You have decent support for being the 2nd choice in a small state. But I don’t really see anything special or “unreal” about it.

The last three years they had a losing record they averaged 54,000 fans. They have NEVER sold out 3 conservative games. Is that good? Is it “unreal”?

Go look at attendance around the country dimwit. Yes, given lack of success getting the attendance it has is very much abnormal, and ISUs attendance has been at its best while attendance across the country has been on a downward trend.

There is one HUGE reason why his age may work against other teams prying him away. He has kids that are getting older, sometimes parents don’t want to bounce them around 3-4 different middle schools/high schools. They want them to to feel stability and not like they are chasing dad everywhere.

Great point. Also consider that CMC is very loyal and caring for his assistants and if he decides to take say the USC or Washington job then he’s making a decision to uproot their families. There are lots of factors that make the status quo very comfortable, and that’s true of most things in life.

Oh man a bunch of people on Cyclone Fanatic might have a slightly inflated view of all things Cyclone? No way that definitely doesn't happen anywhere else. I think a majority of posters on here are pretty realistic about where we sit in the CFB hierarchy.

ISU has a top 25 fanbase in attendance and probably top 30 in viewership once the TV numbers are crunched, for being a historically miserable team that went 7-5 and is also the second option historically in its small home state. Now that ISU is investing and growing and gaining casual fan market share in the state, it’s very attractive.

people in Iowa don’t really realize how rare it is for a state to be so college sports crazy, you don’t find this everywhere or even most places. And the right coach can turn it into a big recruiting advantage relative to the Colorados and Minnesotas that are pro sports markets all the way.
