I bet it has a higher roof than where our team plays volleyball. A high roof would be important to me. I even saw a volleyball lodge in a rafter once. Or was that a basketball?

I like the volleyball venue at the University of Minnesota, where we played tourney games last year. Good size, high ceilings, nice look. That said, Hilton is fun for volleyball, even if it isn't ideal. I'd like to see more games like the Nebraska game a few years ago that had free admission after a football game. We had 10,000 fans at that game. At least then we're taking advantage of Hilton's size.

There are much better options than remodeling an old on-campus facility the like Armory.
Construction of a new VB/Wrestling facility could be completed economically at an off-campus site similar to how the Sukup facility was done.
I'm not sure if CJL even wants a facility like that. Has anyone heard for sure that she would like to have a new one? I have got the impression that she is satisfied and pleased with the Hilton arrangement.
What I would like to see, at a minimum, is a new VB-only court at Hilton. I hate the white lines on the the BB court at Hilton.
I'm surprised they don't lay down a sport court on top of the BB court. That's what it looked like they had on television at the Berkeley regional.
As a side note, the new soccer and softball complex was not built for those sports. Its primary donation was in support of the track programs. The other sports were lucky beneficiaries. It's a great complex for all of them.

University of Minnesota rehabed their old old hockey arena and use it for volleyball and gymnastics and the space works okay for both. It's all part of the Williams Arena building so it's central to campus and parking.
After the basketball teams moved out of Hilton (two years ago? not three already?), didn't vb get remodeled office digs at Hilton? So, doesn't CJL have offices, lockers, playing court all at hand, under one roof? Is the arrangement cumbersome, or does she like it?
The main thing is, VB can't consistently count on practicing in Hilton. There are numerous scheduling conflicts. It's not that they don't like playing there. There is a distinct home-court advantage in VB when you can practice where you play.

I'm sure you'd still see some volleyball and wrestling at Hilton. Makes sense to have the marquee match-ups for those sports in a larger venue, but have a smaller venue for the run-of-the-mill matches that the die hard crowd can really make roar.
I'm sure there are more cost-effective options, but I personally think refurbishing the armory into a useable venue would by FAR be the coolest option. If you could couple that project with some sort of parking complex by Design, that would be ideal, imo.
And as long as we're talking about pipe dreams, I think it's a shame that Div. I hockey probably won't ever be viable at ISU. If it weren't so cost prohibitive, now would probably have been the ideal time to add it. With the Big Ten adding hockey as a conference sport, I'm sure the WCHA would have been very interested in adding a new team from a big Div. I within their footprint. Oh well.
This may sound stupid but the volleyball game against UNI I went to at Ames High was one of the better sporting events I've been to. A lot of that had to do with being able to sit on the floor behind the serving line but it was awesome.
Agreed. Love hilton. A new practice venue however might be a better idea first. Of course, everything requires money.
I dont think id want the armory anyways. I like that we have BB\FB\VB\WR (though i dont really have much interst in WR) all in the same area.
Honestly, i'd put a new competition venue a bit down on the list of justifible projects.

Sorry, but this is not going to happen. As a president of one of the dorms, I can guarantee you we will not blow up another tower until something is done about living space. As of now, students are living in the common areas (former study spaces, dens, etc) in just about every dorm on campus. We don't have enough buildings to fit the growing student population as is, and blowing up another tower is frankly out of the question until another facility is built.
With all the new TV money ISU is getting from the new Big 12 deals from all this crazy conference realignment crap, surely there is a few million dollars that can be put towards building/renovating a nice building exclusively for volleyball.
