I mean, TV is kind of designed to try to force you to watch the ball. So that’s not strange. If you can casually (meaning not lock into) watch the line, generally you can train your eyes to see more of the play developing.
I was thinking he meant at a game. Yeah, at TV you kinda watch what they let you.

If I look beyond the identity of the uniforms I just get confused. Therefore I keep it simple and just let the crew at espn tell me who's good.

I always wonder if the color guy is getting fed information on plays. A lot of times when there is a penalty they will say I think that is holding on number 55 and they will be right. How did he see that? When they show the replay the clip isn't even the one we saw on TV.

Bts, I am a ball follower when watching TV. I do better at live games. Love to watch McDonald on defense. If they actually called holding he would have caused 100 penalties this year.

Ha- nothing like watching Big 12 officiating crews have a 5-man conference to discuss a delay of game penalty. As poor as Big 12 officiating has treated us in the past- I have to admit that it’s been a little better this year.

Could be worse, could be these Pac 12 refs...

Once the refs miss a blatant hold, it’s tough for me not to watch the line every play thereafter. Jerks.

I always check to see what kind of penetration I'm getting.
Don't take the bait...don't take the bait.

That's what she said?

Offense to defense is a little different.
I try to look at formations (if I have time before the snap depending on what I'm doing) and watch for any motion or offsides and a quick glance at Defensive formation/showing blitz but it's not always on cue.
Then I try to stay with the ball based on QB/RB movement. Not going to lie, Brock is pretty solid on his RPO that I've caught myself being faked out because he leaves the ball with Breece for a decent amount of time before he pulls it back in and runs. It's a wonder if he was slightly hurt earlier in the year or they planned that to throw defenses off later in the year since he's running more now.

I will say it's crazier how much intensity or focus I have for college football or Iowa State now they are really good versus the NFL and my packers lately. I get way more nervous for ISU games. That used to not be the case 5 years ago. Man, the times have changed between ISU bball and FB. This is fun.

My favorite reason for physically going to a game is watching the play develop in the secondary that you can’t see on TV. Half the time I’m watching WR get open and completely miss Purdy doing his thing.

This title is a bit odd, I'll admit, but a coworker asked me this today and I didn't have a good answer other than "the ball".

During a play, I watch the ball. Yet I hear people talk about linemen who played well on a play or a LB out of position. How do people see these things if they're watching the ball? Is there a specific position group you watch?

On touchdowns, specifically rushing touchdowns, the replay that TV almost always shows will demonstrate great blocking up front. But yes, we all miss a lot especially if one is at the game.

When we are on offense, I like looking at how the defense is set prior to the snap. I then try to guess what play we will run to take advantage of that D. During the play, I pretty much follow the ball.

The ball, I don't care to learn football more deeply or analyze individual players.

Basketball I watch everything and sometimes rewatch games while consuming beers to see things I missed. I will skip the rewatching this year.
