So many stories of his daughter liking it in Oxford. Was really hoping he'd stay and be a goofy thorn in the sides of the big boys.

I could see jumping if it’s life changing money for his family. But Ole Miss offered him the same deal as LSU. So Kiffin basically jumped because of the LSU brand. He could have stayed at the “little guy” and built them up to consistently compete against the big boys.

Instead, he quit on Ole Miss and bailed before their CFP game to go to LSU to get them a back into the CFP. Instantly goes to super unlikable status in my book.

Just make a batch of betty crocker homemade cookies, but make each raw cookie dough blob a lot bigger. That's basically what they are.
I don't get it either. Someone brought them to a small group meeting I was at and I got the impression that they were low quality cookies buried under a pile of frosting and/or toppings to hide that fact.

Five years ago, there were 9 mormons worth a billion or more. That’s worth more than the SEC and Big 10 COMBINED.
The Mormon church investment funds are worth more than the whole Ivy League combined.

He was almost likable being an upstart in that league. He wears out his welcome quick as a front runner. He has apparently gotten some media training since his USC days.

I still find it hard to believe there is any truth to Kalani Sitake to PSU. He just doesn't seem to be the type of guy that would be interviewing and accepting a job before a conference championship for his alma mater and a chance to go to the CFP.

He’s just getting his fellow Mormons nervous to cash in on bigger payday in Provo. Oldest ploy in the book.

Sounds like BYU stepped up their commitments and he will probably be staying:

I went around to their boards and some of the information is shocking. He is supposedly only making around 3 million a year at BYU.

Apparently the AD was fine with letting him leave even though he wasn’t even asking for a match to PSU’s offer. The AD was more interested in playing one of his coordinator's to take over. It wasn’t until higher level boosters and other decision makers at the university stepped up and pretty much said you cannot let him leave without a counter offer.

Sitake was throwing the AD a softball to keep him and the AD was pretty much you can leave that is ok.

The AD might not have been that far offbase actually. Sitake is a good coach and it's a good match with BYU, but I think Sitake would find it much harder to replicate his success outside of BYU than BYU would have getting similar results from another coach (provided they didn't hire an absolute dud) Just a very unique situation with unique recruiting pipelines that can't really be replicated elsewhere.

That's not to say that I think Sitake to PSU would end in failure but I'm always leery of hiring a coach who would have to completely switch up who and how they recruit in their new job. That's not to say it can't be done, Deboer had never signed a top 25 class before coming to Alabama, they currently have the 2nd best class according to the 247 composite. (of course it remains to be seen if his results on the field will keep him employed past next season)

So….where does this leave PSU? Not a lot of names out there at the level they think they’re at. And unfortunately, the school that does eventually lose their coach to them has to go out and find a replacement this late in the cycle. Hope the ADs are keeping their short list up to date. It’ll be a mad scramble for someone.

I’m happy to see coaches be more willing to stay, even if it costs their schools more. I hope this will make ADs think twice about a quick trigger and let more coaches work it out.

Brian Daboll apparently. LOL.
