I think the desirability of the PSU job comes down to NIL. PSU is a traditional blue bloods and has a fanbase with blue blood expectations. If they don't have top tier blue bloods level NIL money to go along with it, then that is a coaching job setup for failure. Seems like that scenario is playing out at Bama.

I agree with that. But these dumbass AD's agree to them and then don't have the patience to put up with a few bad games.
Ole Miss will always be a wannabe SEC power. They just don't have the resources to be what they aspire to be year after year. Its a better job than Mississippi State and Vandy but that's it. Its probably a push if you want to compare them to Mizzou. They have certainly had more success historically than South Carolina but the ceiling at Carolina is probably higher. Arkansas has more $$$.

KU actually paid off those coaches years ago but it was a lot of wasted money.
Probably not but I once saw a coach get a coin made for him that went on to win 5 games in two seasons.
Agreed. I'm not sure people realize how desolate State College is. You are nowhere near Philly, Pittsburgh, or even the medium sized cities there. Is there a bigger job anywhere that's in a more rural area than there? It does seem like a nice quiet place people would want to raise a family.
I don't know. I could honestly see him going to a good job that isn't going to can him the first time he has a down year. I almost think he'd leave for a place like Wisconsin or even Michigan State before he went to the other 2.
But even those jobs would fire a coach if they don’t have success. You need to show some improvement or success early to get in the good graces of the fan base. Then you’ll be set in those places. A job like tOSU or PSU will make you rich, but you’ll never be happy because the fanbase won’t ever be satisfied no matter how much success you have

I’d argue that athletic directors are up there with the worst negotiators in the history of the world. And yet they don’t get fired for making these ridiculous contracts.
If they’re paying that buyout and taking money from students to help fund AD, that’s borderline criminal.
No kidding! I've been there once. Good news = They have an airport. I flew in on a Friday Night on a Northwest puddle jumper (back in the day).
